The ShepherdUniversity Foundationhas announced the cre-ation of the Monte CaterSilver AnniversaryEndowed FootballScholarship in honor ofCoach Monte Cater’s25th anniversary ashead coach of theShepherd Universityfootball program. Fundswill be used to providefinancial assistance tostudent athletesinvolved in the footballprogram.The new scholarship,
established by Shepherdalumni Al and SaraLueck ofShepherdstown, payshomage to Coach Caterand the football pro-gram he has built, con-sidered to be one of thebest in NCAADivisionII football. In his quar-ter-century career atShepherd, Cater hassuccessfully coached theShepherd Rams to 12WVIAC titles and anNCAADII Final Fourappearance in 2010.Cater has earnedWVIAC Coach of theYear honors nine times.The Luecks believe
that Coach Cater’s calmyet firm demeanor andhis coaching and leader-ship skills have had apositive impact on hisplayers, to the benefit ofthe team and the univer-sity.“What better way to
honor this man and hislegacy than with a giftto the fund created inhis name?” the couplesaid in a press release.
The Luecks are notedfor their support of theShepherd football pro-gram, having estab-lished three other schol-arships in support offootball as well as beingdiehard fans who attendall Shepherd homegames and many awaygames as well. Theirgoal in creating thisfund is to continue toraise money forShepherd athletics inaddition to honoringCoach Cater’s silveranniversary.For more information
