How-To

Supplies:Sun Printing Paper or 2 part solutionPostcard Watercolor PaperCanvas BagsPainters TapePrinted out silhouettes and foliage

Tips:Give people the option of the easier way or the more advanced techniqueUse acrylic sign holders to hold your project in placeInclude matting and framing as part of your craft

Stuffies – Pattern Making

How-ToSupplies:Tracing PaperRulers, Pencils and SharpiesFelt and FillingNeedle and ThreadFelt GlueButtons, ribbon and other embellishments

Tips:Make it a series of programs, at least 2 so people can have enough time to make patternsGive them some examples, but not too many.Spend some time showing everyone how to hand sew so you are doing less one-on-oneDisplay them in the library afterwards

Terrariums & Succulents

How-To

Supplies:Various succulents Succulent Soil (usually labeled as palm and cactus soil)Activated Charcoal (get at pet store) Little Rocks Moss Glass containers, jars, bowls

Tips:Do this in a “buffet” styleAsk staff and friends for clippingsGet containers, rocks, moss and stones from the $ storeGive out a “take care at home” sheet to help patrons with aftercare

Sharpie Art

How-To

Supplies:Variety of dishware (dishes, plates, mugs)SharpiesVarious stickers and painters tape to use as a stencil

Tips:Use oil based sharpies so they will be dishwasher safeBake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes to set the designGive people access to Pinterest for ideas (laptop) or create look books with ideas.

Day of Vintage

Supplies:Felt, Fabric and LaceButtons and other notionsFelt glue, glue gunsJewelry notions and suppliesEmbroidery thread and needles

Tips:Turn it into an all day or do a series of craftsProvide lots of samples and a good variety of suppliesIncorporate it into other events, holidays and local history

Tile Art

•4x4” porcelain tiles•ModPodge•Foam brushes•Discarded book pages, photos or scrapbook paper•Waterproof sealer

Tips:

•Easy-to-do•Inexpensive•Requires access to a well-ventilated location because of spray on sealer

Gifts-in-a-Jar

How-ToSupplies:

•Mason jars or plastic apothecary jars•Hot chocolate mix•Bath salts ingredients•Cake mix

Tips:

•Very versatile•Easy-to-do•Edible •Opportunity for creativity with accessorizing the jar (i.e. wooden spoons, measuring cups, etc.)

Roll-Up Vases

How-ToSupplies:

•Cylindrical vases (available at the Dollar Tree)•Double-stick tape•Recycled book pages and/or sheet music•Ribbon• Pencil (for rolling book pages)

Tips:

•Easy-to-do•No glue necessary•Good way to recycle discarded books•Ask local high schools for any sheet music they might be wanting to recycle

Paper Wreaths

•Have volunteers pre-cut paper to make the crafting process easier•Versatile

Canvas Button Art

•Opportunity for participants to get really creative•Easy-to-do•Versatile

What Now?

DIY Day• Half day event

with vendors and make-n-takes.

• Increased our gate count by over 300 and new or renewed cards increased.

Host a monthly craft club• Set aside a regular

meeting time monthly.• Have a variety of

crafts at different levels, ask their input for ideas.

• Be open to different ages

• We routinely get 20-30 people.

Chopped!

Rules- You will have five minutes to create and

execute a craft with your mystery supplies.- All mystery supplies must be used in some way.- Also available to you, our stock items: glue,

scissors and tape.- Your presenters will judge each round and

select a winner. - The winners of each round will go head-to-head

in a final round to crown the Chopped Craft Champion.

Round One: Supplies

1. Sharpie paint pens

2. Felt scraps

3. A sock

4. A glass votive candle holder

Round Two: Supplies

1. Buttons & rhinestones

2. A blank CD

3. Discarded book pages

4. Two halves of a plastic dinosaur
