Transcript of Choosing Half Shell vs. Whole FICM for Your 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel
What is a FICM?The Fuel Injection Control Module (FICM) sends an electrical pulse to the injector so the correct amount of fuel will be delivered to the cylinder at the correct time. The FICM is vitally important to your engine’s performance and fuel economy.
Both the Half Shell and Whole FICM can be purchased from your local Ford dealership or from www.FordParts.com

The FICM contains two major internal components:
The converter board amplifies battery voltage, as needed, up to 48 volts to ensure precise fuel flow through the fuel injectors
The processor board contains software that is programmed to ensure proper operation of the converter board
We are now offering a Half Shell FICM (converter board) as an additional repair alternative to the Whole FICM.
Advantages of Half Shell FICM: Effective option in over 90% of FICM repairs
Lower suggested retail price
Simple repair with no special tools required
Does not require reprogramming the module which is a procedure many repair shops and fleets are not equipped to perform
NOTE: While a Half Shell FICM does not require reprogramming, customers should ensure their vehicle has the latest software updates from Ford Motor Company.
Half Shell FICM
When should I use a Half Shell vs. a Whole FICM?– Ford has issued a specific diagnostic procedure to confirm if a half shell will be an effective
repair option.
– Detailed diagnostic procedures can be located in the Technical Service Bulletin (TSB 10-12-06) found in the Ford Technical Resource Center (see your local Ford dealership for details).
