Chloroplasts• Are only found in plant cells.• Replace mitochondria• Produce energy from sunlight• Thylakoids trap the sunlight • A group of thylakoids is called a granum.
Function• This cells purpose is to make food• It takes water and CO2 and uses sunlight to make
it into sugars
Interesting Facts• Give pants their green color.• Is necessary in photosynthesis.• The one unique organelle that only plants have.
What do They Look Like?
• Made of nine microtubules arranged in a circular shape
gives them a cylinder appearance
Where are They Located?
• Found in animal cells and most protist cells• Float around in the cytoplasm• Located near the nucleus• Found in pairs
Function• Helps in cell division• nucleation points for spindle formation during
mitosis and meiosis• The basal body for cilia and flagella
