Green Companies Summit
Summit Preface
Wu Jianmin
Chairman, China Green Companies SummitExecutive Vice Chairman, China Institute for
Innovation and Development Strategy
Seven years ago a group of responsible, driven entrepreneurs launched the China Green Companies Summit, choosing Earth Day to host the annual three day event. Under this unparalleled initiative, Chinese entrepreneurs have dedicated themselves and their companies towards a future of sustainable development.
The life of any summit is in the thinking the event invokes. As the world’s population and demand for resources continue to increase at unprecedented rates, we must strive toward our only viable future as a planet: sustainable development. To realize this goal, massive amounts of time and effort must be directed towards a new order. The important thing to remember is this transition has already begun and there are vast business opportunities to tap in completing this great mission. As global citizens, it is our responsibility to help make this great transition happen.

BMW has experienced two world wars and a number of crises throughout its history. The company’s means of survival and prospering has always been found in a relentless pursuit of innovation.
“
President and CEO, BMW Group Region China
“To fully realize innovation, companies must be capable of localizing in research and development. Schneider has had an R&D center in China for over 15 years and has utilized this strategy coupled with a stress on maintaining theefficiencyandflexibilityof a small company, even though we have over 50,000 employees worldwide.
“

China’s Investment Future
What should be most carefully considered today is the rise of the middle class Chinese consumer and their new lifestyle of consumption. With a rise in middle class consumption across a range of industries, we expect the middle class to represent 80% of China’s domestic demand by 2020, up from today’s 34%.
“
Leo Liang
Vice Chairman & CEO, Fosun Group
Overthenexttentotwentyyears, there will be over 45 trillion RMB created in value from the Chinese consumer. This will be in large part due to the rise of the middle class from both 280 million migrant works transitioning into urban citizens, as wellastheinfluxofanadditional120 million people into cities across the country.
