INDIA MISSION TRIP

Aaron Stough, was on the

India Mission Trip Team.

Here are some of his

reflections and insights from

the trip:

Namaste and jai masih ki!

These are the English

representations of phrases

from the Hindi language; a

language spoken in a large

part of central and northern

India. It appears to be some

alien script from another

galaxy to many of us in

America. Namaste is loosely

translated as “greetings” in

English. “Jai masih ki” is

used as an alternate

greeting by many Indian

Christians. It is often

translated as “Praise the

Lord.” Strictly translated,

however, it means “Victory

of the Messiah.”

Christians face battles every

day. Sometimes these

battles are purely spiritual

and often internalized.

Other battles have very real

and very militant outcomes

including injury and physical

death. Whatever the

outcome, as followers of

Jesus, we can enter these

battles with the highest

confidence that he has

already won the war.

A team from New Hope was

recently able to witness this

confidence embodied by

the harvesters of the

Central India Christian

Mission. They are laboring

tirelessly among their own

people, often giving up basic

commodities in their service

for the kingdom of God. One

way in which they do this is

through support of various

children’s homes throughout

the country. We are actively

pursuing funding for these

operations in and around the

group of believers at New

CELEBRATING SUCCESSES

While it's important to always

be looking ahead, it's also

important to take a look back

and celebrate successes…

Our Easter musical, "COME

SEE THE LAMB" was a great

success. On Thursday night we

had a capacity crowd and on

Friday night the crowd was

beyond capacity. The

performers put in long hours

of practice and the results

were fantastic. I heard several

comments that it was the best

program New Hope has ever

done. Congratulations to

Jeanie VandeLinde and the

worship ministry for all your

efforts.

Page 2 The Messenger

Our three Easter services were

also well-attended. Even

though the weather was less

than ideal, we had a record

attendance of 763. For

comparison, last year's Easter

service at the Jefferson Center

was 716. And the three

services weren't just

well-attended, everything was

well-done. So many people

played a crucial role in making

Easter a success and it's

impossible to really name

everyone - so let me just say,

"Great job New Hope!"

SERMON SERIES

We are wrapping our

"Revealed" series this week by

taking a look at heaven.

CHURCH CAMP

The weather is getting warm

and kids are counting down the

days left of school - and with

summer comes CHURCH CAMP!

What a wonderful opportunity

for your children to experience

God in a focused setting

amongst their peers. So many

spiritual insights and decisions

are made during church camp

each year. Their time at church

camp will probably be the

highlight of your child’s

summer.

Registration is easy! On May

12, 19, & 26 there will be a

table in the fellowship hall, or

on the front lawn, with

registration forms and

information. Laura Smith will be

there ready to answer any of

your questions. New Hope

Christian Church will cover

$50 of a full week’s expense!

(Please see Laura if more of a

registration scholarship is

needed.) All kids that register

with Laura on those dates will

be entered into a drawing for

some fun camp supplies.

For more information about

Blue Ridge Christian Camp you

can go to their website:

www.blueridgechristian.org.

MAN UP EVENT

Men ages 17 and older are invited to attend our Man Up Event. The event will be taking place on Saturday, May 18 on the lawn at New Hope. The event will begin at 6 pm. There will be competitive games, grilling, and prizes. Sign up at www.newhoperoanoke.com. Feel free to bring guests but please make sure they sign up as well. If you have questions contact Gary Flora at [email protected] or 540-526-7777.

CHILDREN’S CHOIR PERFORMANCE

Join us for our Children’s Choir Performance on May 19 at 6 pm. The children will be performing Happily Forever After. Join Princess Pride, Sir Brags-a-lot, and their curious band on an amazing trek in a very faraway land. When the Carpenter from another kingdom brings the troubling

news that their castle is actually built on sand and will not withstand the coming storm, they hesitantly choose to follow him as he has promised to show them this “better Kingdom,” & assures them he’ll take them “all the way, and will never leave them.” Come out and support our kids!

THE HEARTBEAT OF

STUDENT MINISTRY

At the end of the night when

the final Cheetos have been

eaten, the last ball put away,

and the loud music silenced,

you will find a volunteer

holding a trash bag. You will

find a volunteer running a

vacuum. You will find a

volunteer talking with a

student. You will find a

volunteer praying with a small

group. You will find a

volunteer with a smile on

their face.

It’s because of these amazing

men and women that ministry

is taking place in the lives of

our junior and senior high

students. It’s because of their

love for Christ that our

students know Jesus. It’s

because of their willingness to

throw a dodgeball that our

students want to be a part of

the student ministries.

I feel incredibly blessed to be a

part of a team who’s focus is

Christ and who’s priority is

students. The Crave Student

ministry rests on the shoulders

of our amazing volunteers who

selflessly serve week in and

week out.

As our semester comes to a

close and our volunteers get

some much deserved “R&R,” I

would like to take the

opportunity to say thank you for

the long nights, the long talks,

and everything else in between.

If you are interested in being a

part of this amazing team for our

fall semester find Jason or one of

our current volunteers and talk

with them about what it’s like to

serve our students.
