Missions Council
During the first quarter of 2017, Wake Forest Baptist Church Missions have had these activities:
Good Neighbor Ministry – Serving over 125 hot dogs every Saturday in the Northwest part of Wake
Forest. We are continuing to build relationships with the local community at Taylor Street Park. We are
in our 12th year serving the community. In the past quarter we served over 1,500 Hotdogs on 12
Saturdays. We are increasingly having difficulty filling volunteer positions. Any new volunteers are
welcome and can contact me to do so at [email protected]
Inter-Faith Food Shuttle – In this first quarter of 2017, we helped 308 households with over 931
individuals with fresh food that was distributed from WFBC with the help of 161 volunteers. Soon,
we'll have fresh food from our Community Garden to add to this effort.
Mobile Food Trailer
During this quarter, the Missions Council used the Mobile Food Trailer to provide five fresh meals
at the Taylor Street Park. Every second and fourth Wednesday each month, we provide and serve
60 – 80 meals each time in the community. Most of these meals go to children and youth. We are
looking for additional volunteers to help with this ministry...it is simple, rewarding, and takes about
two hours once or twice a month. If interested, please contact Susan Debevec at:

Music and Arts Council
The first quarter of 2017 brought several unique experiences and ministry events to the WFBC
Music Ministry. This report will highlight seven of these ministry emphases.
1. The Chancel Choir, Handbell Ministry and Men’s Chorus have been primarily focused on providing and preparing music for Ash Wednesday, Lenten worship services, Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Easter. Music for Lenten worship services was taken from Psalm 23: A Journey with the Shepherd.
2. The Advanced Bells, Men’s Chorus, Preschool Choir, Alpha Choir, Omega Choir, Adult Ensemble, Youth Choir and Youth Instrumental Ensemble have all provided worship leadership in both services this quarter.
3. The Music with Babies and Music with Toddlers ministry has experienced significant growth with a total of 25 participants in 3 classes. Mary Hedrick, Bryant Moxley and Kathy Page are all receiving training from Musikgarten to enhance this growing ministry.
4. The Virginia Tull Concert Series hosted the Wingate University Chorus for an outstanding concert. WFBC members provided a wonderful meal and hosted the students in their homes following the concert.
5. Many of the Music Ministry Ensembles shared the love of Christ through music at area care facilities. The Youth Choir sang at Brookdale, the Kairos children and Puppet Team shared at Carillon and the Senior Adult Choir is sharing their program at all four local care facilities.
6. The Youth Choir participated for the second year in Segue, a youth choir festival at Campbell Divinity School. Ten other churches with a total of over 175 youth participated in this excellent event with Pepper Choplin as guest conductor. Additionally, the Youth Choir and Praise Band provided primary leadership for the Youth Spring Show which raised $3,766.83 to be divided between the Youth Music Missions Trip in June and the Youth Summer Mission Trip in July.

Outreach Council
On March 5th, the Outreach Team hosted a successful Guest / New
Member Luncheon that included 27 adults and children. This was a
great opportunity to share a meal and get to know some new faces.
The Welcome Center continues to be staffed faithfully at both worship
services.
Judy Killebrew continues to oversee the Outreach New Member Picture
Team. She organizes team members to cover both services in taking
pictures of the new members that join the church. The pictures are
then published, along with a brief bio of the new member, in the
Grapevine newsletter each month.
Doug Leary has resigned from the Outreach Committee effective
04/09/17.
Upcoming Events:
Town of Wake Forest Meet in the Street, scheduled for Saturday,
May, 6th.
Worship Council
The Worship Council is made up of the following teams: Lord’s Supper, Baptism, Flower & Altar, Weddings, Funerals, Special Worship Events, Worship Media, and Hospitality. These teams faithfully ensure that our church has been made ready for all of the events that occur there each week.
Youth Council
Junior/Senior Ski and Snowboard Christian Retreat (January)
This year the Juniors and Seniors traveled to Winterplace in Ghent, West Virginia to ski, snowboard,
snowtube and worship together. Our topics for worship and discussion revolved around what is
going on in their lives and preparations they are making as they begin to make decisions about
college, begin looking at applying to colleges, and how to be better leaders. Thus, we did not have
one specific theme on this retreat, but many. This was a great retreat and we were blessed to have
great adult leaders and guest music leader.

SonDown
This quarter we’ve had a couple of different themes heading into Disciple Now (DNOW) Weekend:
In January, our theme was “I’m In” – we looked at some people in the Bible who were “all in” when
it came to following Jesus and we talked about what that looks like for us today – even in the midst
of things like doubt, guilt, pride, and fear. Our youth were challenged to really step back and look at
what it would take for them to be “all in”.
In February, we went on a little journey and our theme was “Road Trip”. We talked about how road
trips are awesome. Whether you’re heading to the mountains with your family or driving to the
beach with your friends, the idea of packing up, grabbing your favorite snacks, planning the perfect
playlist, and hitting the road just sounds like an adventure. And it is! Maybe that’s because new
places are always exciting, or maybe it’s just that, more than anywhere else, the unexpected seems
to happen on the road. Flat tires. Detours. Surprisingly great lunch stops. Disappointingly awful gas
stations. The unexpected is just part of the trip. Life works a lot like that, too. We start with a plan in
mind, but things happen along the way that change our plans, change our minds, or even change
our relationships. That’s when we have to decide to stick to the plan or change course. This was
especially true for the apostle Paul. Long before GPS or interstates, Paul set out on a series of road
trips, and just like us, he experienced some surprising, even life-changing moments on the road. We
took a look at some key turning points on Paul’s road trips, and we discovered that maybe the best thing that can happen on our journey is a change of direction.
In March, our theme was Deal With It in which we talked about the various ways that we deal with
challenges, struggles, or those “changes in direction”. We talked about what the Bible says and how
God helps us to deal with those instead of avoiding them or bottling them up in unhealthy ways.
Ignite Wednesday Night Small Groups
Our Ignite Small Groups have continued to be a wonderful opportunity for spiritual growth. This is
due, in large part to the adult small group leaders. The groups are divided into 7th and 8th grade
students, high school girls and high school guys. These groups meet every Wednesday evening
after fellowship dinner. Once a month our groups combine to serve in our community. This
quarter, they helped by preparing valentines notes for shut ins, and gathering supplies for the NY
mission team.
Disciple Now 2017: RENEW.
For those unfamiliar with Disciple Now, this is a weekend of Worship, Missions, a Concert and Small
Group Time with college students at Host Homes of people within our church. This year our theme was
“Renew”. Our theme verse was Mark 12:30 which tells us to “Love the Lord Your God with all your
heart, with all your mind, with all your strength, and with all your soul.” We talked about how when we
decide to follow Christ, the Bible tells us that the old is dead and the new is born – that God renews our
hearts, minds, bodies and souls. We started this year by talking about how God created us to have 3 key
relationships: with him, with others, and with ourselves. This weekend brought all that we have talked
about this year full circle as we examined how God wants us to love Him and others with all that we are,
all that we have, and all that we do – and when we do this – we become more like Him. Our coordinator

for the weekend was Tracey Thomas-who lined up food, host homes, mission sites, and transportation.
Our speaker and Worship Leader was Adam Fitzgerald. Our band was the Illumination Project who led
us in an awesome worship experience at the Stephenson Center on Friday night. We were joined by
college students from Gardner-Webb University and College at Southeastern. The weekend culminated
in Worship led by our youth for both the 9:30 and 11:00 worship services.
