Collect leaves of various shapes and sizes. Use fresh leaves or dried fallen ones. 2. Place a leaf with its bottom side facing up. 3. Put a sheet of paper over the leaf. 4. Rub the side of a crayon gently on the area over the leaf. As you do this, you'll see the colored areas start to take the shape of the leaf. 5. Rub over the entire leaf and continue until you've rubbed over the entire leaf. Kick Bowling Switch up regular bowling outside by having your child use different sizes of balls to knock down different objects such as empty bottles or empty paper towels rolls. Benefits: This activity develops hand-eye coordination, gross motor control, and the ability to track moving objects. Long Jump Ask your child how far they can jump? Challenge them outdoors by having them jump on lines made by painters tape on the floor or outdoors on grass or in the sand. Make it a game! Chalk obstacle course Supplies Chalk Activity Write out a variety of gross motor movements in a sequence (like you would hop scotch). For instance: 1. Jump like a bunny 3 times, 2. Hold a tree pose on one side, 3. Walk on your hands and feet, 4. Jump on one foot, 5. Hold tree pose on the other side, 6. Jump on the opposite foot, 7. Twirl 2 times 8. Sensory scavenger hunt Collect items you’re sure to find outside or around the park (wood chips, dandelions, leaves, pebbles) and affix them to a piece of paper using tape. Bean Bag Balance Have your child balance a bean bag on their head and walk from one straight point to another without dropping it. Family Limbo How low can you go? This is a fun activity that the entire family can join in to do together inside or outside. Alphabet Activity Supplies • Sidewalk chalk • Bean bag Activity Using sidewalk chalk, write the letters of the alphabet all around the ground outside, in no particular order. Ask your child to throw a bean bag and where the bean bag lands, they name that letter. Mix up the play activity by asking your child to name and then aim the bean bag to that letter to add a bit of challenge to the game.
