Stages of Development
• Prenatal (before birth)• Infant (birth to 1 year)• Toddler (1-3)• Preschooler (3-5)• School age (5-11)• Adolescent (11/12-adulthood)• Adult• Geriatric
Developmental Task
• The different skills that children learn as they grow.
• Each stage has different developmental task.
Physical Development
• Reflexes – An automatic muscle
response
• Motor Skills– Using your muscles– Fine– Large
• Hand-eye coordination– Skill in moving the hands
in relation to what the eye sees
Mental or Intellectual Development
• Ability to think and use the mind
• Creativity
• Learn by your 5 senses – Seeing– Hearing– Touching– Tasting– Smelling
Emotional and Social Development
• Learning to express feelings and individuality
• As they learn to express themselves, interact with others better.
• Develop in this area by playing with others.
Moral Development
• Learn the difference between right and wrong
• Conscience– Inner sense of right and
wrong
• Eventually learn to control their own behavior.
