Innovation and Limitations

License transfer is an important business activity for innovation partnership in multiple industries especially pharmaceutical, with the background of increasingly R&D investment and registration leading time . However, the highly restricted regulatory environment in China placed a lot limitations for license transfer, which are significantly different from global markets like EU/US. It is critical to understand the CANs and CAN’Ts in a dynamic way so as to figure out the most appropriate pathway to accelerate innovation and speed-to-market new product launch in China. In this presentation, I hope my experience sharing could inspire more creative and flexible thinking from innovation leaders regarding accelerating innovation in China.

Manuel Gerres is the Head of Start-Up Relations at SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) since the founding of the business unit at the beginning of 2013. He is responsible for the start-up program and the corresponding task to develop new business opportunities and products by using external technology innovation. Manuel is 32 years old and German by nationality. Before joining SBB, he was principle at Seedlab in Berlin.

How enterprises successfully implement innovation and digital transformation in cooperation with startups

In today's fast-paced world, many enterprises are facing the challenge to promptly keep up with recent market trends, especially within digital transformation. Rather often, complex internal processes that are too slow and sedate are preventing those enterprises from advancing. Moreover, digital transformation challenges the status quo and long established company culture. The case of SBB exemplifies how enterprises can leverage from startups when it comes to innovation and cultural progression.

Laizhu Jiang, Ph.D, holding over 40 innovative patents and 100 publications in materials science and engineering, joining 2014 Stanford Executive Program for "Global Executives" in Stanford Business School, is currently the CTO for Baosteel Stainless and the vice president for Research and Development Centre within the whole Baosteel Group. He has been growing up from the scientist in university both home and abroad to the research and development engineer in Sandvik Steel, Sweden, the chief research engineer and the CTO for Baosteel Stainless.

Though starting to invest in the stainless steel business only 15 years ago, Baosteel Stainless becomes now the the major international player and even the leading one in the ferritic stainless steel area.
