Throw Ins

• Teach players how to do a proper throw in.

• Line players up with a partner and teach them to make

sure ball is behind their head and they throw the ball to

the most open player and to their feet

Coaching Points:

1) No spin on the ball

2) Ball behind the head

3) Pass to the most open player

4) Aim for their feet or into space so they can run onto

ball.

5) There is no offsides on a throw in.

• Teach players what it means to be offsides and how to

stay onsides.

• Give the players examples of what it looks like to be

offsides.

• Top diagram is offsides, the bottom two are NOT offsides.

Training Sessions: Activity 2 for Weeks 1-2

1v1 Dribble Across End line

• 15x10

• Red players start off with the ball and they try and dribble

past the Blue defender using a move.

• The Red player scores a point for dribbling over the end

line.

• Blue defender can start to defend once the Red player

enters the area.

• If the Defender wins the ball and dribbles over the Red‘s

end line, they earn a point.

• Play 90 Second rounds and the team with the most point

wins.

• Red will attack and Blue defends for 90 Seconds. Then

Blue attacks and Red defends for 90 Seconds.

• Attackers work on moves and turns to get past defender.

• Defenders work on speed of pressure and 1v1 Defending

Techniques.

Progression:

• 2v2

Corner Kicks

• Teach players where to start and where they can send the

ball from a corner kick.

• Also work on the defending of corners and players should

deal with a ball in the air and one that is sent low.

• Make sure to use both sides so players deal with in and out

swinging corners.

• Make sure that you work on the player movements/runs into

the box.

Progression

• Now have the offensive team play a short corner and a

defensive player can go out and defend it.

• The team that scores the most goals wins the round.

Training Sessions: Warm Up for Weeks 5-6

Academy Passing Circle

• 10-15 Diameter Circle

• 2 players/cone for 4 cones

• No players on other half

• Players start with their hands and work on Throw In

technique by tossing the ball around from player to player.

• After they pass the ball they run straight across to another

cone to receive the ball again.

• Once they receive the ball again they pass it again around

the circle and go back to where they started.

Progression:

• Go to Feet

• Go opposite Direction

• Put defenders in Middle and play keep away.

Modification:

• Can have players start in a circle to work on just the

technique and then add the movement into it.

Direct and Indirect Free Kicks

• Red team will start on offense and will have 10 chances to

score as many goals as they can.

• Then the Blue team will be on offense and will have 10

chances to score more goals than the Red team did.

• A new ball is delivered in when Red score, goes out of

bounds or is cleared up the field.

• Mix up the location of where the ball is located.

• Make sure that you work on the player movements/runs into

the box.

Progression

• Now do a indirect free kick and the player must lay it off to a

teammate.

• That player can either shoot on goal or pass ball into box.

Training Sessions: Warm Up for Weeks 7-8

Knee Tag

• 12x10

• Red team starts on offense and tries not to be tagged.

• Blue team starts on Defense

• Players switch lines after they go.

• If defender tags opponents knee then they earn a point or if

you manage to force them out of the area without touching

them.

• If defender tags the knee, then the play is over.

• Play for 30-45 secs and then switch players if the defender

is unsuccessful.

Progression:

• Add a ball.

• Defender must steal or knock ball out.

• Attacker tries to dribble past end line.
