Parking lots are open throughout event hours.Overnight parking is not available, and there are no in-and-out privileges. WHAT: First staged in 1901, the Chicago Auto Show is thelargest auto show in North America and has been held moretimes than any other auto exposition on the continent. Thisyear marks the 102nd edition of the Chicago Auto Show.

EXHIBITS: Multiple world and North American introductions.Complete range of domestic and imported passenger cars andtrucks; sport utility vehicles, experimental and concept cars. In total,nearly 1,000 different vehicles. Numerous accessories and auto-related exhibits,competition vehicles, project, antique and collector cars.

WHEN: Today through Feb. 21

WHERE: McCormick Place, 2301 South Martin Luther King Drive (Lake Shore Drive at23rd Street,) Chicago. The Chicago Auto Show spans 1.3 million square feet of theMcCormick Place complex. McCormick Place offers a total of 2.7 million square feet ofexhibit halls with an additional 700,000 square feet of meeting room availability.

HOURS: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (closing at 8 p.m. on Feb. 22); The box office closes one hourprior to the end of the show each day.

COST: $11 for adults; $7 for seniors ages 62 and older; $7 for children ages 7-12. Freeadmission for children 6 and younger when they accompany a paying adult. Weekdaydiscount tickets ($4 off the regular adult admission) available at various local new-cardealers and Shell gas stations. Some of those vehicles literally opennew doors of possibility to buyers interest,as showgoers get behind the wheel of someof their favorite cars, trucks and sport utili-ty vehicles on the display floor.

Manufacturers have made getting in andout of vehicle more interesting with newdoor innovations that are remarkable.

At the Mercedes-Benz exhibit, peoplewill have the opportunity to take a seat inthe $200,000 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLSAMG Gullwing by way of doors that reachto the sky like wings of a bird.

The SLS Gullwing pays homage the 1954Mercedes-Benz 300SL that set the indus-try on notice that standard doors werebeing replaced by new doors of opportunityto peak consumer interest.

That concept hasnt changed in morethan 50 years.

Italian automaker Lamborghini gives itsexotic sports car special appeal with doorsthat open in scissors fashion hinged tomove directly forward rather than straightup for driver and passenger entry and exit.

A number of aftermarket suppliers atthis years show carry custom scissor-styledoors that mimic the Lamborghini type.They replace conventional doors on a vari-ety of production vehicles for a true customfit and appearance.

The Roll-Royce Phantom on display thisweek has doors that open suicide-style that is, hinged forward on the front door

edge and on the back end of the rear doorfor an encumbered pillarless open corridorto the lavish interior. The back door is auto-matically closed with a simple push of abutton on the cabin wall.

General Motors Cadillac Division has anew rear liftgate that is push button operat-ed on its new CTS Sport Wagon and SRXcrossover vehicle.

The optional power liftgate featurespositions that can be set to maximum orthree-quarter for easy reach by all who raisetheir hand to load the cargo bay.

Carrying loads of people and cargo justgot easier with the 2010 Dodge Ram HeavyDuty Crew pickup truck. Now, four full-size doors give six adult occupants dignifiedentry and exit with crew cab styling andfunction.

Checking out the factory warranty is akey factor in the purchase of a new vehicle.Standard warranties include basic, nor-mally referred to as bumper-to-bumper,and powertrain, which covers the engineand transmission.

These warranties have been extended inrecent years due to increased vehicle relia-bility and workmanship in vehicle produc-tion. Most American vehicles have a basicwarranty of three years/36,000 miles withthe powertrain warranty at five years/100,000 miles. Ford is the exception with apowertrain warranty of five years/60,000miles.

Also, the American luxury brands likeCadillac, Buick and Lincoln have increasedtheir basic warranty to four years/50,000miles with the powertrain warranty thesame as their other nameplates.

Foreign manufacturers offer a basicwarranty of three years/36,000 miles forHonda, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota. Acura,Audi, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagenand Volvo have bumped their basic war-

ranties up to four years/50,000 miles. Thepowertrain warranty is four years/50,000miles for Audi, BMW, Jaguar, MercedesBenz, Porsche and Volvo.

Other foreign manufacturers increasedtheir powertrain packages to fiveyears/60,000 miles. These include Nissan,Scion, Subaru, Toyota and Volkswagen.Acura and Infiniti increased their power-train warranties to six years/70,000 miles.

The warranty leaders are Hyundai, Kiaand Mitsubishi with the basic fiveyears/60,000 miles and powertrain war-ranties at 10 years/100,000 miles.

A number of foreign manufacturers areoffering no charge maintenance for visitsto the dealer service centers. BMW is theleader covering four years/50,000 miles,followed by Volvo and Mini-Cooper, whichoffer three year/36,000 mile warranties.

Others with lesser time periods includeAudi, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus, Scion andVolkswagen.

When purchasing of a new vehicle,the options are numerous making carefulresearch a priority. A visit to the ChicagoAuto Show adds fun to the researchequation.

At this years Chicago Auto Show, con-sumers will find an array of 2010 and 2011models that are worthy of their considera-tion, comparison and inspection.

Initial price, maintenance expenses andresale value are also key considerations. Inthe area of price, vehicles today range froma compact vehicle like the Hyundai Accent,offered with a base cost of $9,970, to thehigh-performance Chevrolet Corvette ZR1with a starting price of $107,830.

Some consumers look to the auto showas a mission to find the best priced vehiclethat meets their budget and transportationneeds.

Today, there are numerous price incen-tives available from most manufacturers inthe form of rebates or low-financing rates.

Examples include Chrysler with its$2,000 to $3,000 rebate or zero to 1.9 per-cent financing on the 2010 Chrysler 300.Another is the 2010 Jeep Commander andJeep Grand Cherokee with a $4,000 rebateor zero to 1.9 percent financing.

General Motors offers a $2,000 rebate or2.9 percent to 4.9 percent financing on the2010 Buick Lucerne and a $2,000 rebate or3.9 percent to 5.9 percent financing on the2010 Chevrolet Malibu.

GMs phase-out vehicles also carryheavy rebates with the likes of the 2009Saab 9-3, 9-5 and 9-7X, advertised with a$7,500 rebate or zero to 6.9 percent financ-ing. Seldom do consumers see incentiveson Corvettes, but GM is offering up to a$4,000 rebate or zero percent financing onits new 2009 Corvette models.

Nissan is offering $4,000 to $5,000 inrebates or zero to 2.9 percent financingon its 2010 Nissan Titan Pick-Up Truck.Pick your vehicle and then pick up your

incentive.A dealer incentive is a separate program

where the individual dealer is allocated cashincentives by the manufacturers to beplaced on certain models as the dealer seesfit.

BMW has authorized its dealers a$12,000 package on their 2010 BMW M6and $10,000 on its BMW 6 Series vehicles.

Honda has authorized a $2,000 incen-tive on its 2010 Acura RL and $1,500 to$2,000 on the TL model. Volvo has offered$6,000 in dealer incentives on its 2010Volvo C70 and CX70 models, and $4,000on its Volvo S80 model.

These and other incentives are certainlyworth pursing in the search for a specialnew vehicle at this years Chicago AutoShow.

NISSAN NORTH AMERICANissan is offering $4,000 to $5,000 in rebates orzero to 2.9 percent financing on its 2010 NissanTitan pickup truck.
