CHHAYA was started by two professionals – one from industry and the other from development sector.

Seemantinee Khot: 20 years in NGO sector implementing grass root level

development projects, 5 years of Consultancies for International and UN agencies and 6 years in Corporate sector, heading CSR.

Vikram Mehmi: A senior finance professional turned into successful CEO

with 38 years in industry, having steered “Idea Cellular” to profitability and listing, led “Birla Sun Life Insurance” to leading market position in a highly competitive industry and managed large wind farms at “Suzlon Green Power”.

Our belief

We conceive Corporate Social Responsibility as the Corporate‘s ability to respond to social issues arising out of and affecting business operations.

Therefore, it is crucial to understand how local communities perceive the business operations, whether there are any social / environmental / health impacts that bother (or are likely to) local community or civil society at large.

Though often there may not be any direct harm today, even potential or perceived negative outcomes bring reactions, and these can be minimised by collectively addressing such areas of social risks / conflicts through CSR interventions.

A turnaround specialist in both B2B and B2C space, Vikram is a serial CEO having managed & financed large wind farms & tipped them over at Suzlon Green Power, steered Idea Cellular to profitability and listing, and led Birla Sun Life Insurance to leading market position in a highly competitive industry.

He brings tremendous experience in business strategy, M&As, leadership, customer relationship management, delivery channels and business development.

Prior to this, he has raised multi-billion dollar debt, private and public equity etc as a senior finance professional at NTPC, ONGC, VSNL and Birla AT&T.

Rajesh Tandon, Advisor

Dr. Rajesh Tandon is President of PRIA (Society for Participatory Research in Asia), a non-profit, non-governmental International Centre for Learning and Promotion of Participation and Democratic Governance.

His professional career started as an active intervener in the processes of social change in rural areas. He set up Society for Participatory Research in Asia and built PRIA as a vehicle to strengthen learning opportunities at the grassroots. Civil society coalition is a passion for Dr. Tandon. He is the founding member of CIVICUS (World Alliance for Citizen Participation), the largest CSO network.

He was honored with the Award in Social Justice

in March 2007 by the Government of India for his distinguished work on gender issues.

He did his PhD (Organizational Science), from the
