The two major railway stations in the state are

Raipur and Bilaspur. The highest freight loading

capacity in India is recorded in Chhattisgarh and

around one-sixth of the revenue of Indian

Railways comes from this state.

The state government has also planned to construct about 300

km of rail network in the region. To take this initiative ahead,

the government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding

with South Eastern Coalfields and IRCON International. The

Chhattisgarh, the developing tourist spot, has developed its

physical infrastructure to attract the attention of domestic as well as

foreign investors. The transport has been given immense focus as

the state has nearly 24,678 kilometres of national highway that

accounts for the 71% of total road infrastructure in the state.

Page 14: Chhattisgarh infrastructure

The strong factor of the huge investment in state is the large road

network. For improving the Chhattisgarh Infrastructure, the

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to

develop five national highway projects aggregating 450 km

through private sector participation so as to meet the state's

growing transport requirements. The Asian Development Bank

will give funds to upgrade the state’s highway network.
