Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.

Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.

Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.

It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done. I start off this month’s message with a slogan that I discovered awhile ago which pertains to a lot of the situations we encounter in our daily lives. It also pertains to the operations of our club. As I look over our 2017 roster of approximately 160 members, I find this slogan to hold very true with our club. Let me give you some facts. By considering at least 3 meetings, tours, activities, events, etc. as being ACTIVE with the club – only 35% of our members are ACTIVE, leaving 65% of our members as being INACTIVE MEMBERS. Now I understand that personal circumstances limit quite a number of members from being as active as they may wish and there are those that had done their share and then some over the years; however, there are also those that can attend more meetings, tours, activities, events, etc. and serve on one of our committees. The club currently needs help on various committees which some of you are capable of providing. You don’t have to be the committee chairman or leader; any help would be greatly appreciated. There are those newer members who have recently filled some of these positions. A BIG THANK YOU goes out to you. For the rest of our members – How about being that SOMEBODY for the club, NOT the Everybody and Nobody!! Several new members made suggestions to me that I think we will incorporate into October’s meeting. We will review all of the committees that the club has along with each committee’s duties. We will also identify each committee’s chairman and mention what committees need additional help. Hopefully this may enlighten new club members as well as those that have been in the club for years. Maybe then we will get more volunteers for the assistance that we greatly need. I’m sorry if I got a little lengthy with this month’s message but these are observations of mine over the past year as President which I thought should be brought out to all of our members. EVER WONDER WHAT’S GOING ON AT THE AACA MUSEUM IN HERSHEY? Jim Aberts will be at our September meeting to talk about all the happenings at the museum and will gave us a look at its past history and a peak into its future. Jim works part time at the museum and he and Joan often volunteer as gallery hosts. Jim and Joan grew up in Chester County and are former members of the CCACC. They retired to Lancaster County to be closer to their daughter and granddaughters.

COVER CAR – 1956 VOLKSWAGON CONV.

My wife gave me this brand new 1956 Volkswagon Convertible for three reasons: (l) – It was our twelfth Wedding Anniversary. (2) – I kept borrowing her car every time I needed to drive fellow employees or customers. (3) – The dog often slept in my old car, so it didn’t smell very nice. This Volkswagon opened a whole new automotive world. A small car is fun to drive. A convertible is fun to drive. Getting the maximum power from a small engine is fun too. Its first six years were almost trouble-free. A broken valve at 78000 miles restored to me the joys of hunting junkyards for parts. Amateurs can easily remove & repair that little engine. Richard (Dick) Dilworth has been a member of CCACC since 1996 and served as President in 2001 and again in 2007& 2008. AUGUST GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES The August meeting of the Chester County Antique Car Club was held on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the Thorndale Fire Company. Officers present were Russ Swallow, Jack Robinson, Bud Tarr and Jeanie Cassidy. Russ Swallow president opened the meeting with the pledge of allegiance. There were no visitors. Secretary’s Report: None. A letter was read regarding the club’s donation to the National World War II museum in memory of Howard Pyle. Treasurer’s Report: Jack Robinson reported income of $43.00; Expenses of $266.38; Balance in checkbook of $17,872.32; CD at $5,084.55. Activities: Several activities will be listed in the newsletter. Membership: No new members this month. Mike Reitman has a 1988 Corvette. Joe Carens has a 1950 Desoto. There is currently 160 members. Website:. Lisa Carr reported receiving emails regarding a request to have a vintage truck at a wedding and a request for a garage to rent. Ways & Means:. SUPER SUNDAY June 4, 2017, turned out to be a nice day for the West Chester Super Sunday celebration. The kids games and vendors lined the downtown streets of town. The car club, as usual, was staged on Walnut Street next to the post office. The trees and building offer nice shade and sun shine as suits you.The conversation was fun as we caught up on events from the winter and enjoyed soda or water "on the house". As in the past, some members went to the Malvern parade before coming to West Chester. COVERED BRIDGE TOUR On Sunday, October 22nd I will be leading a tour of four historic covered bridges in northern Chester County. This tour will be similar to the previous tour of covered bridges that we did in southern Chester County. 9th Annual Jenner’s Pond Run We had 29 cars and 45 people on a beautiful day at Jenner’s Pond Retirement Village. This is a joint event of the Chester County Car Club and the Brandywine Region of AACA. The weather was perfect and there was plenty of pizza, hot dogs, drinks, snacks and cookies. THORNDALE FIRE CO. SHOW Sunday was a beautiful day for Thorndale Fire Company's Community Day car show. They had about 55 cars show up for their annual event, and they had quite a few nice prizes they raffled off that included free state inspections and free oil changes and things of that nature. In fact, our "guaranteed to win something" member, Jack Wright, won a nice prize. Go figure! I would like to thank all the members of CCACC and all the non-members who came out to support the men and women who provide us with an invaluable protection service. And last but not least, I would especially like to thank Mark Cursey, Jack Robinson, George Morton and Dave Shingle for the exceptional way they handled parking the show cars. HUMOR While golfing, a grey-haired gentleman accidentally overturned his golf cart late one afternoon. A very attractive, young female golfer, who lived in a villa on the course, heard the noise and called out, "Are you OK?" "I’m OK, thanks," he replied, as he pulled himself out of the twisted cart. She said, "Come on up to my villa, rest a while, and I’ll help you get the cart up later." The old guy noticed her silky bathrobe was partially open, revealing what appeared to be a very nice figure. "That’s really nice of you," he answered, "but I don’t think my wife would like it." "Oh, come on now!" she insisted She was so pretty and so very persuasive. He sighed...."Well, I guess it's OK," he finally agreed. After a couple of Scotches, he thanked her and said, "I feel a lot better Now, but I know my wife is going to be really upset. So I’d better go now." "Don’t be silly!" she said with a smile, letting her robe fall slightly more open. "Stay for a while. Your wife won’t know anything. By the way, where is she?" He replied, "I'm guessing still under the cart."
