Yields and selectivity of alkylation versus elimination in the reaction of compound (I) with carbazoly- lalkyl bromides [cf. (II)] can be significantly improved under phase transfer catalytic conditions and ultrasonication. The synthesis of compound (IIId), however, is not achieved starting with compound (I). In this case, introduc- tion of carbazolylethyl group must be carried out before introduction of the carbazolyldodecyl group. — (LI, XIANG; SANTOS, JAVIER; BU, XIU R.; Tetrahedron Lett. 41 (2000) 21, 4057-4059; Dep.
