2000 azo dyes azo dyes T 0200 36 - 188 Phase Transfer Catalysis and Ultrasound in Tandem Alkylation of Azo Dyes for Bifunctional Molecules. — Yields and selectivity of alkylation versus elimination in the reaction of compound (I) with carbazoly- lalkyl bromides [cf. (II)] can be significantly improved under phase transfer catalytic conditions and ultrasonication. The synthesis of compound (IIId), however, is not achieved starting with compound (I).
