1999 amines amines (benzene compounds) Q 0120 25 - 079 N-Methylanilines from Benzylic Azides. The title transformation to amines (II) is investigated in more detail. Instead of SnCl 4 TFA gives similar results. Other acids are less effective. Additional experiments to understand the mechanism are made and discussed. The reaction gives complex mixtures or decomposition products in the case of a p-methoxy, p-nitro, and m-nitro substituent α-branched benzylic azides.
