21 - 023A Naked Diatomic Molecule of Bismuth, [Bi2]2−, with a Short Bi–BiBond: Synthesis and Structure. — Single crystals of (II) are obtainedby a diffusion process in an ethylenediamine solution layered with toluene. Thecompound crystallizes in the rhombohedral space group R3 with Z = 3. Thestructure contains isolated Bi22− anions with a Bi–Bi bond distance of 2.838 A.Each Bi22− unit is surrounded by eight [K+(crypt)] cations. Additionally, twoother phases, [K+(crypt)]2InBi3 and [K+(crypt)] 6(In4Bi5)2, cocrystallize with(III).
