Two important European Regulations are relevant for manu-facturers or importers of chemical substances:

The European Regulation REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation of Chemicals, EC No. 1907/2006) became effective on 01. June 2007. REACH affects all new chemicals as well as existing substances (EINECS Inventory).

The EU Regulation (EC No. 1272/2008) on Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP), entered into force on 20. January 2009. The CLP-Regulation introduces the Globally Harmonised System of the United Nations for the classification and labelling of chemicals (GHS) into the EU.
