Transcript of Checklist for Design

  • 8/13/2019 Checklist for Design

    1/4

    Name:_____________________________________________Checklist for DesignAspect 1:

Has a SPECIFIC and focused research question

Lists specific independent, dependent, control variablesAspect 2:

    All control variables included

Paragraph explaining how variables are going to be controlled in detail.

Method allows for manipulation of independent variable (and for student to answer research

    question)

    Aspect 3:

Must allow for enough data to be collected (multiple trials)

If data is going to be graphed must allow for 5 data points

Enough data will be collected to answer research question

Checklist for Data Collection ProcessingAspect 1:

All qualitative and quantitative data is included

All uncertainties are included (with same decimal places as measurements they refer to)

Appropriate labels and units are included

    Aspect 2:

All steps clearly shown and labeled

    Units and labels included

    Correct answer

Graphs must include line of best fit

Sample calculations for every step includedAspect 3:

    Sig figs

    Labels (including on graphs)

Uncertaintiespercent, total and convert back to final answer

    Checklist for Conclusion EvaluationAspect 1:

States a formal, obvious conclusion and explains how and why this was reached by

    REFERRING to your data!

Explains with scientific reasoning why this was correct

Lists all systematic and random errors

Explains how any of these errors may have impacted the above conclusions and in what

    specific way

    Compares random error to uncertainties

    Compares answer to literature values

Compares uncertainties to percent errors (determines whether systematic or random error is

    more significant)

    Aspect 2:

  • 8/13/2019 Checklist for Design

    2/4

Comments on the design and method/procedure

Comments on the quality of the data

    Lists all the weaknesses

Determines what the most significant weaknesses were (and how they impacted the data

    specifically)

Determines whether the results were precise and/or accurateAspect 3:

Improvements suggested that will improve the quality of data collection

Improvement suggested for each weakness mentioned above

Mention how to reduce random and systematic error
