A Note From the Principal…
It has been easy to tell we are in a new season with the cooler air, rain and leaves changing colors. It’s hard to believe that we are just a couple weeks away from being a quarter of the way through the school year! Homecoming activities kept students very busy this past week with kick off assemblies, Powder Puff, Pep Assembly, Parade, football game and then the culminating Homecoming Dance. The energy of our students is contagious. It was a fun week with most of our students getting involved in someway. Staff members were cheered on at the kick off assembly as they demonstrated new dance moves for students: the Sprinkler, the Grocery Cart, the Twist, the Floss, the Running man, the Moonwalk, etc. Not really sure how many of them loved the new dances but always good to show students the classic alternatives! I appreciated the school-wide spirit of students and staff and not just the rivalry between grade levels! Congratulations go out to our entire Homecoming Court! A special congratulations to Homecoming Queen, Hannah Fielder, King Cole Rutledge, Miss Congeniality Ellie Timmons and Mr. Congeniality Max Slezak. Last week your son or daughter received a progress report for all of their classes. Most progress reports show dedication in their academics. If you and your high schooler are not satisfied with the current level of performance, I strongly encourage you to meet with their teacher to develop a plan of action for extra help. As a staff, we will work to help every student be successful. It is most beneficial if a student is open and willing to get the extra help they need and deserve. Please do not wait too long if extra help is needed. Intersession I is scheduled to begin October 26, school will resume November 5. If you ever have questions, suggestions or ideas, please do not hesitate to reach out. Communication is important and helps us be the best we can be! Enjoy a colorful fall! Respectfully,
Sue A. Kenkel

Counselors are visiting English 12 classrooms
the week of October 1st. Please talk with your
senior student about what was shared in this
meeting including college applications,
financial aid, scholarships, trade schools etc.
The Common Application Early Decision
deadline is quickly approaching. Due to the
large volume of applications, if a student turns
in the electronic request of the Common
Application to his/her counselor later than
October 19, 2018, we cannot guarantee that the
school portion will be completed before the
November 1, 2018 due date.
Step 1: To ensure that your application is
processed in time for the early decision deadline,
please complete the electronic submission of
your Common Application request (you will be
prompted to enter your counselors e-mail on the
electronic form) by October 19, 2018.
Step 2: Turn in your Recommendation Letter
form by October 19, 2018. Recommendation
forms are located on the wood rack in the
guidance office. Colleges require that the
counselor writes a letter of recommendation for
each student in order for the Common
Application to be considered complete. Please
include detailed information about your
accomplishments on the form so that your
counselor can write the best possible letter on
your behalf.
4
Remember to submit all college applications to the Guidance Office and
not directly to the college/university, with the EXCEPTION OF “THE
COMMON APPLICATION.” The counselors have information that is
added to each and every application including your official transcript.
Missing any of these items can cause your application to just sit at the
college/university and not be processed.

FAFSA provides more than $150 billion in grants, loans, and
work-study funds each year but you have to complete the FAFSA to
see if you can get any of that money! It is advised that parents fill
out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for their
college-bound student. It is required each year even if you do not
think your son or daughter qualifies for financial aid. Why fill it out?
Even if a student does not qualify, colleges and universities use the
information to help determine whether students qualify for other
types of financial aid.
6:00 pm: Join Baker College Financial Aid Specialist, Gerald
McCarty, Vanita Wilson from the GISD and the counselors from
Davison High School in the Auditorium to learn more about FAFSA,
local scholarships and the Genesee County stipend available to ALL
graduates residing in Genesee County.
6:45 pm: Join us in the high school Media Center for step by step
instructions as you complete your FAFSA form.
Items to Bring:
