    THE MAY GATHERING

I'm pleased to say hat the May gathering went well, but apologies for the change of date. We will

try to make sure that it doesn't happen again. The club is gaining popularity and it is particularly

gratifying that people are still willing to travel great distances to listen and play.

Pat Martino at Band on the Wall, Manchester.

Yes, I'm sure you will all agree a great concert! Just about every guitar player in the North West and

further afield was present. It was good to see so many Cheadle Jazz Guitar Club members there.

Pat has always been in my top six all time favourite guitar players. Having had the pleasure of

meeting him on several occasions in the US and the pleasure of jamming with him at his home in

Philadelphia, his command of the instrument, his ability to play long fluent lines and his tone have

always fascinated me. Let's hope that he will be appearing on our doorstep again very soon.

    Trefor Owen.

Last week I went down to London to see Jack Wilkins perform at the 606 Club. Jack was

accompanied by Pete Ruby (guitar), ( Steve & Pete Ruby are co-owners of the 606),

phenomenal piano player Gareth Williams, Simon Wolfe (bass) and Winston Clifford (drums).Jack was this side of the Atlantic for a two day recording session and a gig in Paris and

consequently was in top form when he got to the 606. As usual with Jack, great playing with

a wonderful selection of jazz standards! What a great club the 606 is! Great food andatmosphere. Remember to pay a visit when you are next in London!

B M G (Banjo Mandolin & Guitar) Magazine has been

    revived! Click on the link.http://www.banjomandolinguitar.org/news.htm

This was the only guitar magazine around when I started playing in the 60's. Unfortunatelyit folded with the death of the editor and has now been revived. It was followed by "GuitarPlayer" which was great for jazz in its early years. Then there was a British magazine"Guitar" which was dedicated to jazz guitar. Didn't last long! This was followedby "Archtop" which was the forerunner of "Just Jazz Guitar Magazine".

IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH FEEDBACK WHEN PLAYING

    YOUR ARCHTOP GUITAR:
