Choose a Sixth Form College

There’s one simple fact you should know: Sixth Form Colleges are the highest performing post 16providers in a state sector that includes school and academy sixth forms. Learners who come to usare free of the traditional restraints of school. They don’t wear uniforms, they know the staff by theirfirst names and they feel they are more in charge of their own destinies. Yes, you’ll be pushed towork hard, but let’s face it; life is hard, and the better you’re equipped for it the better you’ll perform!

We are proud of our success in ensuring ALL students achieve their potential. High achievers willthrive in our challenging environment, but we encourage young people with all levels of priorattainment to enrol. Like all Sixth Form Colleges we are part of an elite, but we’re not elitist; and thefact that our results are so good reflects the fact that all our learners are stretched and supported tobecome high achievers.

Sixth Form Colleges are experts in 16 to 18 education and act as a valuable stepping stone betweenthe worlds of compulsory education and higher education and employment. The Pastoral Care isspecialised for the 16 to 18 age group and the progression rates to university are excellent.

A 2011 report conducted by the National Audit Office concluded that Sixth Form Colleges ‘performbest on most measures of learner achievement’. The report showed that:

• Learners in Sixth Form Colleges recorded higher attainment in Level 3 courses than those in schooland academy sixth forms or general further education colleges.

• According to the value added score (which measures the progress that learners make relative totheir prior attainment), 58% of Sixth Form Colleges added more value than expected, compared to29% of general further education colleges and 16% of school and academy sixth forms.

• At qualification Levels 1 to 3, Sixth Form Colleges had higher success rates than general furthereducation colleges (84% compared to 78%).
