Introduction

• A very controversial figure• A hero to someone , a monster to others• He hoped to change the world.• The CIA and American special forces conspired to bring him down• His death is shrouded in mysteries• His body is secretly buried in an unmarked grave• But the man they hoped the world would forget is the man who

became a legend.

• Che is described to being a guerrilla in the highest form in the human kind• Someone who is prepared to sacrifice himself for an ideal• In his case it was for Marxism, Leninism and overall socialism

Early Childhood

• Born in Rosario, Argentina, on June 14, 1928, Ernesto R. Guevara de la Serna• Upper middle class family• Studied medicine • He travelled to latin America and have seen poverty and misery• Blamed it on imperialism and capitalism• Believed that the only solution to this was communism• Retuned to complete medicine 1953

• Ernesto kept notes during his trip, which he subsequently made into a book named The Motorcycle Diaries.

After Graduation

• Headed to Mexico• Introduced to Fidel Castro• Che was assigned command of half of Castro’s forces and given the

rank of ‘Comandante’ , a title he shared only with Castro himself• Assisted him in taking power in Cuba by overthrowing Batista in 1959• He was leaned towards Soviet Union• 1959-61 Guevara was the president of the National bank of Cuba,

and then minister of Industry & Agriculture

Mid life

• In 1960 he wrote a book titled “Guerrilla Warfare,” a manual for Third World insurgents, as part of his plan to spread Communism throughout the world.• Che resigned his government post in Cuba in 1965 and travelled

widely to Africa and other insurgent hot spots in the world• Trained locals to fight against colonialist governments

The Last part - Bolivia

• In November 1966 ; he surfaced in Bolivia to organize a revolt by local Communist insurgents• Most of them were poor and uneducated• Che trained them the guerrilla warfare• CIA was relentlessly behind che• On October 7, 1967, he and the surviving members of his group were

ambushed and captured by government soldiers.• Two days later, on October 9, Che was executed by a Bolivian firing squad,

Major accomplishments

• Reduction in illiteracy in cuba• Formation of universities for everyone • Land reforms for farmers• Symbol of anti establishment and change

• Confront reality head on• Seek feedback and listen• Say what needs to be said• Encourage push back• Take action on issues• Communicate openly • Lead change, Give credit to others• Make decision and move forward• Hold people and yourself accountable

Styles of leadership

• Che Guevera was inspired by the leadership styles of “Lenin, Stalin and Karl Marks”• Che Guevara was a transformational leader who developed followers’

beliefs, supported individuals, and provided inspiration, faith and respect• He wants to remove the social injustice from the society …. And

believed that it will be happened by a socialist society• Nelson Mandela referred to him as “an inspiration for every human

being who loves freedom”

Fighting strategy and beliefs

• His method is not to negotiate but make you surrender• No one can leave another soldier on battlefield• If one leaves his weapon in the battlefield he must go back alone and

get it• Che Guevara was a determined individual who was dedicated to his

cause• Che demonstrated a distincted way to lead his group and became an

example for the others, suffering the problems of his men without reserving any privileges for himself

Failures

• The strict and uncompromising feature of his character prohibited him from taking the easy road• Guevara was not a negotiator, making it impossible for his opposition

to come to a compromise with him• His inability to compromise with the opposition and his taste for

violence.
