Caution! Slow moving vehicle in the house (?!) Several of our residents drive INSIDE the house. Power wheelchairs (aka power scooters) are a part of life

for many who require help maintaining their ability to move around Marian Manor. Power Scooters are

wonderful for those who need them but can pose some challenges in busy hallways like we have here at

Marian Manor. Here are some things to keep in mind when it comes to power scooters:

Power scooters have variable speeds. The speed of an individual’s scooter is determined by their

ability to maneuver the joystick that controls it as well as the ability to turn the head, reflex response,

etc.

Once the speed is set, it can be adjusted, it will not adjust on its own.

Power scooters do not have side view mirrors like a car. So when approaching a scooter from

behind, especially on carpet, there is a good chance the driver does not know you are coming. If you

are approaching a narrow section of the hallway or are in a crowded area, you may need to announce

yourself to the driver so they know you’re coming.

If you’re the driver and you hear someone coming up behind you, slow down or even stop, so you

can communicate with the person walking to help determine how they can safely navigate around

you. Communication is important to avoid accidents and injuries.

In a noisy environment, it may be necessary to walk slowly behind the driver of the power scooter

until you get to a wide enough area allowing you to announce your intention to pass.

No matter what, safety is our first concern! Never hesitate to let your nurse or therapist know when

you need help navigating your power scooter. It is a misconception that asking for help w/ your

scooter raises the chances of it being taken away from you. In fact, the opposite is true. Asking for

help w/ your scooter is an indication to us that you are aware that you may need a check-up. Self-

started prevention is always preferred. Please do not hesitate to ask us if you are doing everything

possible to use your power scooter safely.

Best of Me

I can’t believe November is already here. But what a special time to be thankful for all the

Lord has done for us. And hopefully, a special time to be with some family members and

friends. It is also a special time to reminisce about all the wonderful times we have had

together, and remembering our loved ones who have gone on before us who helped make

those events so special.

Take some time during this month to do something special for someone. It could be meeting

someone’s financial need, or helping a friend or family member in some way. It could be

taking the time just to sit down and visit with someone who you know is having a difficult

time. But this is the time to realize how blessed we are, and how we can be a blessing to

someone else.

Presently we are working our way through the wonderful Book of Esther from the Old

Testament.

We will be preaching on this every Wednesday morning at 10:15 at our WOW Worship time

in the Terrace Room.

We will also be working through each Chapter of Esther in more detail every Monday at 3pm

at our Bible Study in the Library on the second floor.

I really hope you can join us, because we are having a great time together.

Don’t forget about Re-Charge with Rob every Thursday morning at 10am in the activities

room. Food, fun, and lots of laughter…We are having a great time with some trivia questions.

If there is anything I can do for you or your family please don’t hesitate to touch base…
