ABOUT VINCENTVAN GOGH

Vincent Van Gogh was bornon March 30th 1853 in theNetherlands. He was aPost-Impressionist painterwhose paintings have alarge influence on 20thcentury art. Many of hispaintings are landscapes,portraits, and self portraits.In just over a decade hecreated over 2,100paintings. He passed awayat the age of 37 on July29th, 1880.

THE STARRYNIGHT

Arguably the mostfamous painting by VanGogh, The Starry Night(1889) depicts the viewfrom his east-facingasylum room window inFrance just beforesunrise. It is currentlypart of the permanentcollection at theMuseum of Modern Artin New York City.

IRISESThis is one of the manypaintings of irises paintedby Van Gogh. Painted in1889, Irises was alsopainted while he was livingat the asylum, a yearbefore his death in 1890.Like many of his works,this painting was influencedby Japanese ukiyo-ewoodblock prints. It iscurrently on display at theJ. Paul Getty Museum inLos, Angeles, California.
