This JAP 1000cc V-twin engined Matchless is a true barn find, having been in store for overfifty years. 101 A 1920s BSA B250 round tank motorcycle, registration numberPR 5910, black. BSA’s 250cc side valve proved very popular withtradesmen and learners alike during the 1920s. Initially available withonly a two speed gearbox, it would gain a three speed version in 1926,which enabled it to achieve a top speed of 45 mph. Presented inwonderfully original barn find condition, this model B has been in thesame family ownership for many decades. Requiring full restoration,the motorcycle would appear to have all its major components present,to aid its restoration. Unfortunately there is not any paperworkaccompanying the motorcycle but with the aid of the BSA Owners’Club, the current registration (PR 5910) may be able to be retained Seeillustration £1200 - 1600

102 A 1920s Matchless 1000cc V-twin motorcycle restoration project.A very interesting barn find project for the enthusiast, comprising allthe major components to construct a large V-twin motorcycle. Theparts consist of a frame, Matchless MAG V-twin engine, a gearbox,front forks, mudguards, footboards and numerous other components.This now represents a wonderful opportunity for the next owner torestore the motorcycle to their specification or perhaps supply hard toobtain parts to finish an ongoing project. 103 A 1923 Matchless H2 combination, registration number PR 213,black. This remarkably original motorcycle and sidecar combinationhas been in the same Dorset family from new. Last on the road in 1960,it still displays its last tax disc with pride. Since 1960, the motorcycle hasremained in storage and it would appear that all of the majorcomponents are present to enable a full restoration. Accompanyingthe motorcycle is the original owner’s handbook, spare parts list andRF60. This wonderful motorcycle combination now offers the nextowner a remarkable opportunity to restore this original machine to itsformer glory. 104 A 2008 Harley-Davidson DYNA FXDF FAT BOB motorcycle,registration number WR08 ECJ, black. This one owner FAT BOB hasonly been ridden 6,000 miles from new. Always garaged andmeticulously maintained, it comes with both open and muffledexhausts, twin saddle bags, fly screen, alarm and pillion seat with backrest. 106 A 1965 BSA Beagle, registration number BYD 23C, red.Introduced by the press in the Autumn of 1962, the 75cc single cylinderfour stroke was intended to replace the D1 Bantam. The Beagle couldcruise at 40 mph and return up to 150 mpg, but the model was shortlived and was withdrawn from sale in 1965. This restored example wasfirst registered 1st April 1965 and has the rare leg guards fitted. It willrequire a final shakedown and safety checks before once again takingto the road, as it hasn’t been ridden since the restoration wascompleted. 107 A 1967 NSU Quickly, registration number GTK 969F, red. Thisvery original NSU Quickly has been in the current ownership for thepast forty years. It has recently been recommissioned and MOT’d aftermany years of dry storage. Accompanying the moped are old MOTs,copies of the customer’s service card, handbook and sales brochureand RF60. This very original, low mileage moped would now enhanceany light motorcycle collection. V5C, MOT to July 2013, tax exemptSee illustration £380 - 420

113 A 1961 Austin A40 Countryman, registration number 735 UXY,red with black roof. This little A40 is a real wolf in sheep’s clothing. Firstimpressions are of a standard car but looks are deceiving. The enginehas been replaced with a MG 1275cc twin SU carburettor example, thebrakes have been upgraded with front discs and MG rear drums andthe suspension incorporates telescopic front shock absorbers with anantiroll bar. The interior is fitted with Mini Sprite front seats and inertiaseat belts, both of which are worthwhile safety features. There are a fewuseful spares which accompany the car, including two glass fibre frontwings, the original seats, a workshop manual and other items. Thevendor informs us that the little Austin has a decent turn of speed andis reluctantly only for sale so he can concentrate on a recently acquiredMG B GT. 114 A 2001 Peugeot 306 cabriolet Pininfarina special, registrationnumber B11 GHC, silver. This Somerset registered 306 cabriolet hascovered a believed 86,800 miles from new, with a supporting servicehistory. Recent expenditure has included the fitting of a new cam beltat 80,000 miles and the recent replacement of the tinted green plasticwindow in the soft top at a cost of £350. A relatively inexpensive familyconvertible that is ready for the coming spring. V5C, MOT toNovember 2013, no current tax See illustration £1600 - 1800

115 A 1998 Saab 900 Special convertible, registration number R191CYG, Pacific blue. This Saab convertible was first registered on 24thFebruary 1998 and was supplied by Bishops of Taunton. The car hascovered a believed 78,000 miles from new and has been used as asecond car by the current vendor. V5C, MOT to October 2013, taxedSee library illustration £1200 - 1500

116 A 1970 Ford Cortina MKII 1600E, registration number ABW205H, metallic blue. The highly desirable 1600E had its official launchat the 1967 Paris Motor Show. The high specification executive modelfeatured lowered Lotus Cortina suspension, a 1600 GT Kent engine,and a luxurious interior with walnut trimmed dashboard and doorcappings, sport bucket seats and full instrumentation. Originallyexported to Cyprus, this MKII 1600E arrived back on these shores in2003 and has had two registered keepers since. The current ownerbelieves that the recorded mileage of 72,000 could be genuine, havingbeen on Cyprus for thirty years, and the first British owner only used thecar for local journeys twice a week. During its current ownership, theCortina has undergone a programme of restoration and refurbishmentto bring the car up to a show standard. This included a full respray, anengine and gear box strip down and rebuild, overhauling of thesuspension with new bushes, etc and repolishing of the dashboard anddoor cappings. This fine example of a Ford Cortina MKII executivesaloon has been restored by an enthusiast to a high standard and thenext owner will have a car which can be enjoyed driven and shown inequal measure. 117 A 1990 Range Rover Vogue 3.9 EFi Classic, registration numberG454 HOA, Colorado silver. This Range Rover has been fastidiouslymaintained by the current owner. During his ownership the car has hadover £22,000 spent on restoration and maintenance, to bring it up to anextremely high standard. Finished in Colorado silver with a recentlyretrimmed full grey leather interior with dark grey piping. The car hasother modern refinements including air conditioning, electric heatedwindscreen, electric glass sunroof, reversing camera, twelve disc CDauto changer, electric aerial, walnut door cappings and gear knob anda new headlining. The mechanical side of things has not been skimpedupon either with a rebuilt cylinder head with new valves and springs, aPiper camshaft, new balanced propshafts and front double cardenjoints, a later rebuilt R380 five speed gearbox, new radius arms andbushes and other items too numerous to mention. There is a hugehistory file accompanying the car with numerous receipts, old MOTsand the original owner’s wallet and handbook. With early two doorRange Rovers now commanding such high prices, the first series fourdoors are surely only to go in the same direction. 118 A 1975 Triumph Stag, registration NRU 293P, brown. TheGiovanni Michelotti styled Triumph Stag was launched in 1970. In 1964a tired 2000 saloon was dispatched to Italy for Giovanni to restyle inpreparation for the Turin Motor Show. Whilst visiting the factoryengineering director Harry Webster saw the two door, four seatertourer and immediately purchased the design. Further developmentwork took place in England including the fitting of the distinctive T rollbar and the installation example of Triumph’s all new 3 litre V8 engine.This chocolate brown automatic with saddle tan interior has beenstored for approximately the last fifteen years and now requires somerecommissioning and restoration before taking to the road once again.A worthwhile project which once finished the new owner can enjoy thatV8 burble and carry four passengers in comfort. 119 A 1984 Daimler Sovereign 4.2 litre saloon, registration numberA840 EPJ, metallic blue. This Daimler has recently benefited fromcylinder head work and recommissioning to obtain its new MOT.Finished in metallic blue with a cream leather interior, walnutdashboard and door cappings, electric windows, mirrors and centrallocking. 120 A 1991 Range Rover Vogue 3.9 EFi Classic, registration numberH772 WUY, red. The world famous aluminium bodied Range Roverstarted production in 1970 from Leylands Solihull plant. Initially in twodoor configuration, changing to a four door body style from 1980. Thisfour door example has been fitted with a LPG conversion to aideconomy. 121 A 1937 Daimler DB17 sports saloon, registration number CKV608, green over black. This rare Daimler is believed to have been oneof the vehicles displayed on the Daimlertand at the 1938 Earls CourtMotor Show. The Daimler has just emerged from a full respray in theoriginal colour scheme of green with black wings and accent detailsaround the window frames. The engine was restored by a previousowner and new cooling hoses and seals have recently been replaced,and the braking system has been completely overhauled. The Daimlerretains its original green leather interior, which has a well loved patina.An exciting find of a rare model, which has had a considerable amountof recent care lavished upon it, one for the enthusiast. 140 A 1991 Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth Rouse Sport 304-R41/100, registration number H91 AGU, moonstone metallic blue. TheRouse Sport Cosworth was a limited edition version of Ford’s Sierradeveloped by Andy Rouse and his company, Rouse Sport. Twoversions were available, the 302-R, a two wheel drive version, and the304, the equivalent four wheel drive. Andy had hoped to build onehundred examples, but only sixty seven were subsequently made. Sixtwo wheel drive and sixty one four wheel drive versions. The RouseSport Conversion added £4,450+VAT to the price of a standard car,making it the most expensive Sierra Cosworth ever marketed andsold,by Ford by some margin. The model had a unique body kitencompassing totally revised front and rear bumpers, side skirts and amuch bigger spoiler, and subtle Rouse Sport badging featuringthroughout, wheel arches were modified to enable fitment of wider225/50 VR 15 inch tyres versus the standard 205/50s and thesuspension was enhanced with modified bushing. All of the carsproudly displayed their Rouse status and build number on a plaqueseen on the driver’s B pillar. The interior benefited from front Recaroseats with bigger bolsters and an additional set of wings over thestandard version. The seats and dashboard display bespoke Rousesport badging. Cloth trim was standard with leather trim listed as anoptional extra at a cost of £280. Most customers opted for leather trimand therefore only a limited number like this car were fitted with clothtrim. This car, number 41, is the only cloth equipped car known to theRSOC. This car was registered on 4th April 1991 for the supplying FordRS main agent, Bristol Street Motors of Bromley. This exclusive motorcar, Ford’s flagship model, was run as a company car by one of BristolStreet Motors company directors. He ran the car until March 1993, atwhich time it had covered 19,000 miles and had been serviced inBristol Street Motors workshops on four separate occasions. It wasthen retailed as a Ford A1 approved used car to a local lady, MrsBateman, from Sevenoaks in Kent. Mrs Bateman retained ownership ofthe car, using it regularly, before ownership passed to her son, wholived at the same address in 2007 and then onto the current owner in2010. There is a full service history, including the original bill of salefrom Bristol Street Motors, the original order letter from Rouse Sport,the original owner’s handbooks and wallet, receipts and documentsverifying the 100,000 miles covered from new. During the current

ownership, the car has received a great deal of attention, and over thewinter of 2010/2011, the following work was carried out: the cylinderhead and bottom end of the engine were rebuilt, a new clutch wasfitted, an oil pressure switch was fitted, the turbo was rebuilt, a newactuator and windscreen were fitted, the headlining was repaired, thewheels were refurbished with new tyres all round, a new fuel tank wasfitted, and numerous other components. Citroen’s range of HY vans, light commercials and campershave been a part of French everyday life since their introduction in1947. With changes in lifestyle and more leisure time a number ofthese charming and quirky vans are becoming a more familiar sight onBritish roads, and offer an interesting alternative to the usual VWcamper van. This lady owned camper has been cared for and sparinglyused during her ownership. Finished in a most becoming pale green,with a two berth cabin with wooden cabinets and gas cooker. Thecamper has had its engine recently reconditioned by Simon Doe ofCube Garage. The braking system has been overhauled with a newmaster cylinder and a reconditioned radiator has been fitted with newcooling hoses. 166 A 1967 Vanden Plas Princess 4 litre limousine, registrationnumber SMT 619F, black. Austin’s flagship range of Princess modelswere launched in 1947, based on the previous Sheerline. They sharedthe outgoing Sheerlines 120 bhp 4 litre straight six engine and camein either large saloon or seven seat limousine body styles by the coachbuilder Vanden Plas. During the twenty one year production run, themodel was slightly revised and updated in Mark I, Mark II and Mark IIIversions, before it was replaced in 1956 by the new Princess Mark IVwith more modern coach work incorporating integral front wings.However the limousine version continued to be hand made by VandenPlas at the Kingsbury Works, in increasingly small numbers, and from1960 onwards was simply known as the Vanden Plas Princess 4 litrelimousine. A firm favourite with civic dignitaries and captains ofindustry, Austin’s large and imposing Princess also received Royalpatronage with several models being delivered to the Royal Mews.One of which hit the news headlines in March 1974, when it wasambushed by a lone gunman and riddled with bullets in a failedattempt to kidnap Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips. Thisparticular car has recently been recommissioned after twenty threeyears of dry storage (last tax disc expired 1991) and displays arecorded mileage of 40,000 on the odometer, which the vendorbelieves could be correct. Finished in black with gold coach lines, theinterior is trimmed in West of England cloth to the rear passengercompartment which incorporates two folding occasional seats, acharming original radio and controls are incorporated into one of thepassenger arm rests (just the thing to tune into the World Service!) Apartition separates the passengers from the driver, who sits on a velourcovered bench seat. The vendor believes that the car could have beenused by the Royal household, but as yet there is not any evidence tosupport this. The history file contains old MOTs, a heritage certificateand some correspondence. All together a very original and interestingvehicle that would merit further investigation and research with apossible Royal connection. 167 A 1968 left hand drive Volkswagen Beetle 1500, registrationnumber KFX 286F, blue. The evergreen Beetle is as popular today withenthusiasts as when they first rolled off the Wolfsburg production linein 1938. This Beetle has been owned by the Weill family from new. Thefirst owner was Samuel Weill Jr, a well known Volkswagen and Porschedealer from Calver City, California. The Beetle would remain with thefamily in California until it was imported into England in 2004,whereupon a full restoration was carried out. The history file containsthe import documentation, correspondence between Samuel Weilland Volkswagen of America Inc, the book Small Wonder by WalterHenry Nelson, which has reference to Mr Weill, old MOTs and generalcorrespondence. This restored Beetle, having continuous history witha family having a long term association with Volkswagen, would makea great addition to any collection. Conditions of Sale1) All lots will be offered for sale subject to these conditions of sale for veteran, vintage and classic

vehicles, motorcycles and automobilia.

2) Charterhouse act as agents for the vendor of each lot and shall not be party to or liable in anymanner whatsoever on any contract of sale between the seller and the buyer.

3) The Buyera) The highest bidder acknowledged as such by the auctioneer will be the buyer. If any disputearises, the auctioneer shall have absolute discretion to settle the matter. The auctioneer shall rulethe bidding and no bid shall be retracted. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse any bid. Thebidder at the sale who is successful in purchasing any lot or lots is entirely responsible for paying forsuch lot or lots in accordance with our terms of business. Purchases made on behalf of a third partyare entirely the responsibility of the bidder at the sale. The auctioneer reserves the right to bid onbehalf of the vendors for any lot and to withdraw, consolidate or divide any lot or lots.

b) The buyer of any lot shall be solely responsible for conforming with the requirements of theRoad Traffic Acts, the Construction and Use of Motor Vehicle Regulations and all relevant orders,rules and legislation made in connection therewith.

c) The buyer of any lot shall be solely responsible for the obtaining of any export license that maybe required in connection with any lot purchased. (see below)

Export Licencesi) Buyers are reminded that an export license is required for any vehicle purchased for more than£15,999 and manufactured or produced 50 years prior to the date of export. Certain other itemsincluding, inter alia, all manuscripts and documents 50 or more years old and photographic material60 or more years old and valued at £400 or more require export licences.

ii) It should be noted that export licences usually take a minimum of four weeks to obtain andbuyers are reminded that their purchases must be stored away from the auction site, at their cost,pending export.

iii) Buyers are reminded that it is a serious offence to breach or attempt the regulations concerningexport licences.

4) Buyers are reminded that their purchases are held at their risk from the fall of the hammer andCharterhouse will not accept any liability for loss of or damage to any lot.

5) Registration. To assist the progress of the sale, all prospective buyers must register their name andaddress at reception and collect a numbered bidding card before the sale commences. This card maybe used to indicate your bids to the auctioneer during the sale. Two forms of identification need to besupplied to register, at least one with name, address, signature and preferably photograph, for examplea new style driving licence. For prospective buyers who will not be at the sale, either because they areleaving absentee bids or are having a telephone bid, and who are interested in a vehicle or motorbike,a £1,000 deposit will need to be paid. This will be refunded if the bid is not successful. If the bid issuccessful, this sum will be used towards the final bill.

6) Buyer’s Premium. A buyer’s premium of 15% plus VAT is payable on the final bid price of eachautomobilia lot. A buyer’s premium of 10% plus VAT is payable on the final bid price of each vehiclelot, with a minimum buyer’s premium of £100 plus VAT being payable on motor cars and £50 plusVAT being payable on motorcycles.

7) Value Added Tax. Lots on which Value Added Tax may be payable by the buyer on the "hammerprice" are indicated in the catalogue by a symbol beside the lot number. The buyer shall pay anyVAT which may be due on any amounts owed by the buyer under these Terms of Business at the ratesprevailing on the day of the auction.

8) Auctioneers Margin Scheme. The Auctioneers Margin Scheme allows auctioneers to sell itemswithout VAT on the hammer price. Under the margin scheme an amount equivalent to VAT at thecurrent rate is added to the buyer’s premium. This amount cannot be refunded. The VAT element willnot be shown separately on the buyer’s invoice.

9) Payment. The purchase price must be paid by the buyer to Charterhouse no later than 12 noon on the Monday following the sale. Our methods of payment are with cash or card. Visaand Mastercard are accepted, and incur a 2% surcharge. Cash for amounts over £9,000 will notbe accepted. All purchases must be paid in full before any lot is removed from the premises,no goods will be released to buyers unknown to the auctioneers without adequate reference.Any buyers unknown to the auctioneer must establish a bank reference with the Accountsdepartment prior to the sale. Anyone who, for whatever reason, is unable to pay for their goodson the day of the sale, must inform the Accounts department as to the date and method thatpayment will be made. Accounts not paid within fourteen days will automatically be subject toan interest charge of 5% above base rate from the day of sale.

10) Descriptiona) All lots are sold and purchased ‘as seen’. A vehicle sold ‘as seen’ is sold and purchased for whatit is and with all its faults (if any) and without any condition, warranty or other term (whetherexpressed or implied and whether implied by statute, common law, custom or otherwise) as to theage, description, mileage, suitability, fitness for purpose, merchantable quality or roadworthiness ofthe vehicle.

b) Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the description of each lot, but these,whether made orally or in the catalogue, are expressions of opinion and not representations of fact.Illustrations whether in the catalogue, on the web site, or sent by email are solely for guidance andmust not be relied upon in any manner whatsoever. Most lots are of an age and nature whichprecludes their being in pristine condition. The condition of any lot and the nature of any damageand/or restoration should be confirmed by the buyer by examination prior to the sale. Allprospective purchasers must satisfy themselves as to the condition, colour, age and all othermatters relating to any lot and no claims will be accepted in respect of any such matter.

c) Each buyer by making a bid for a lot acknowledges that he has satisfied him or herself fully asto the condition of the lot. If any damage is done to any lot at the viewing or before, during or afterthe sale, such damage shall be made good by the person committing such damage, principalsbeing responsible for the acts of their servants, such damage to be assessed by the auctioneers.

d) Whilst every endeavour has been made to ensure that the items lotted in this catalogue will beavailable and offered for sale in catalogue order, no responsibility can be accepted by theauctioneers for variations and omissions due to circumstances beyond their control. NeitherCharterhouse nor the sellers of any lot will accept responsibility for any misrepresentations,misdescriptions or omissions obtained in this catalogue.

11) Contract of Salea) On the fall of the hammer, a contract of sale is completed between the seller and the buyer.Charterhouse is not a party to the contract of sale and shall not be liable for any breach thereof bythe buyer or the seller.

b) If successful in buying a lot, please ensure that your number can be seen by the auctioneer andthat it is your number that is called out. Should there be any doubts as to price or buyer, pleasedrawer the auctioneer’s attention to it immediately. Please contact the accounts desk with details ofhow you will pay.

c) The ownership of the lot(s) purchased will not pass to the buyer until the buyer has paid theauctioneers in full the total amount due and the auctioneers have applied such payment to the lot.

12) Transfer of Risk. Each lot shall be the purchaser’s sole risk from the fall of the hammer and shall besold with all faults and imperfections, the auctioneer not being responsible for the correctdescription, genuineness or authenticity of any lot and making no warranty whatsoever. Thepurchaser is deemed to have inspected the lots and satisfied himself as to their condition.

13) Commission Bids. If instructed, the auctioneers will execute bids and advise prospectivepurchasers. This service is free. Lots will always be purchased as cheaply as is allowed by such otherbids and reserves as are on the auctioneer’s books. In the event of identical bids, the earliest willtake precedence. There must always be a maximum limit indicated, ie the amount to which youwould bid if you were attending the auction yourself. "Buy" or unlimited bids will not be accepted.Commission bids placed by telephone are accepted at the client’s risk. We do accept commissionbids by facsimile and email, providing they are accompanied by full name and address details. Weurge our clients to place such commission bids within one hour of the close of the view day.

14) Telephone Bids. Requests for telephone bidding must be registered with the Accounts departmentwithin one hour of the close of the view day. It may not be possible to accept requests on sale days.Written confirmation of such bids from persons unknown to the auctioneers must be receivedbefore the commencement of the sale. Whilst every effort will be made to execute telephonebidding, the auctioneers cannot be held responsible for any default or neglect in connection withthis service. All such arrangements therefore are made entirely at the prospective buyer’s risk.

15) Collection of Goods. All vehicles must be collected by 3.30 pm on Monday 11th February. Vehiclesnot collected by this time will be removed to a compound at Evercreech at a cost of £60.00 + VATper vehicle. Storage charges will then be levied at £10.00 per vehicle per day or part thereof.Motorcycles not collected by 3.30 pm on Monday 11th February will be removed to our head officein Sherborne at a cost of £40.00 + VAT per motorcycle. Automobilia will also be removed to ourhead office for collection at no charge. Lots will only be released to the buyer or their authorisedrepresentative upon presentation of release notes issued by Charterhouse and settlement of anyremoval, handling and storage charges due. Purchasers are reminded that each lot shall be thepurchasers sole risk from the fall of the hammer. Buyers should be aware that no lots will remain atthe auction site after 3.30 pm on Monday 11th February.

16) Third Party Liability. Every person on the auctioneers’ premises before, during or after a sale, shallbe deemed to be there at their own risk and shall have no claim against the auctioneer or ownerof the auction premises in respect of any injury they may sustain or any accident which may occur.
