Take this opportunity to have fun and create great memories with friends and family, all while enjoying jazz, watching a theatre production, screening a movie, learning a craft, taking a class, participating in a book discussion or viewing an exhibit. December 7 and December 21 Porkchop Productions Presents: Holly and the Snowman - At various locations and times (see inside) Holly the Elf finds herself in a huge dilemma when a letter arrives at the North Pole from a child who wants a snowman for Christmas. This normally wouldn’t be a problem for the elves in Santa’s Workshop, but the letter comes from a tropical island where it never, ever snows. Saturday, December 7 The Plantation Singers St. Andrews Regional Library at 2 p.m. Enjoy this a cappella singing group known for their ability to get audience participation with a shoe tapping, hand-clapping and sing-along atmosphere. Friday, December 13 The Ugly Sweater Tour: Storytelling, comedy and yuletide style Main Library, Auditorium at 7 p.m. Featuring award-winning, nationally touring artists who will motivate your holiday spirits (and grinchiness) with their oh-so fashionable guffaws and cheer. Saturday, December 14 Musical Performance featuring Daniel D. Otranto Road Regional Library at 2 p.m. Enjoy listening to a performance by Daniel D., a local contemporary jazz violinist touring across the nation. Daniel D. has performed at the Apollo Theater and at events for President Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Larry King. Sunday, December 15 The 9th Annual V-Tones Holiday Extravaganza Main Library, Auditorium at 3 p.m. Join Charleston's premier ukulele band to ring in the holiday season. Thursday December 19 Becky Becker’s Box of Puppets: The Nutcracker Dorchester Road Regional Library at 10:30 a.m. When Drosselmeyer gives Clara a nutcracker on Christmas Eve, she is whisked away for a night of magic, fairies and princes. Enjoy this perennial favorite performed by Becky Becker’s Box of Puppets.

Throughout December Saul Alexander Gallery Exhibit As I Pass This Way by Lori Starnes Main Library Lori Starnes’ exhibit features portraits and figurative pieces contemplating the human condition. “Capturing human emotion is what excites me most as an artist,” Starnes explains. “Joy, confusion, peace and melancholy are recognizable to us all, and I use color and composition to help convey these feelings.” Art Exhibit by The Kiawah Island Art Guild John’s Island Regional Library This exhibit features pieces of art created with oil, watercolors, pastels, mixed media and woven material. The Kiawah Island Art Guild consists of 36 members who meet once a month from September through May.
