Charcoal Pencil Techniques
Objective: You will learn various charcoal pencil
techniques for creating value in order to create a realistic observational drawing.
DRILL: Draw the garlic bulb with charcoal pencil and shade it. Take 5
minutes.

• Light / dark contour lines• Value with hatching• Value with mark-making- cross-hatching,
stippling, scribbling, creative.• Contrast • Gray/ color background with black and white• Apply techniques= eggs, garlic, popcorn• onions…Lollipop or bag or pumpkin or grapes…
Homework~ Draw food, any materials.Document what you eat at least twice.
Bring in objects for your chalk still life
• Food• Candy• Bottles/ cans• Trash • Remnants of food• Look in cafeteria and (dare I say- trash cans)• Drinks• FOOD, FOOD, FOOD• Your carbon footprint.
