Lily as an individual character: Lily’s character somewhere connects

to the life of Virginia Woolf. She refused social norms. Her silence sometimes have deep

meaning. Stream of consciousness. Lily begins portraits of Mrs. Ramsay

at the beginning of the novel but still in the end of the novel she was unable to complete.

She undergoes with drastic transformation in the novel.

Hester as an individual character:

She was portrayed as a intelligent and fighter in the novel.

Prominent mother figure to the women of the Puritan Society.

Circumstances which she faced makes her important character.

Struggles for acceptance. Pearl was the reason oh her raise in

the novel. At the end, she stood alone in the

novel as an individual.

Minor reading oh both the character: Both the characters are

independent and path maker. Lily’s character very near to the

Virginia’s real life. Same way Nathaniel Portraits

some of his personal experiences which he had gone threw with the help of Hester’s character.

Both are decision makers. Both the novel can be consider

as a Feministic novel.
