Aladdin Jr. Character Descriptions

Aladdin (MALE Ages 14 & up ) is the title character. Dreams of being rich, and

getting off the streets. Strong acting, comic timing, and vocals skills a must.

Needs to be the funny, slick prankster as well as the giving, romantic type.

Genie (MALE or FEMALE Ages 14 & up) is the fast talking, scene-stealing

funny man. HIGH ENERGY. Strong comedic skills as well as vocal abilities.

Think: Robin Williams from the movie.

Jasmine (FEMALE Ages 14 & up) is the feisty, rebellious, yet genuinely sweet,

naïve object of Aladdin's affections. Strong acting/vocal skills

Abu (MALE or FEMALE Ages 8 & up) is Aladdin's best friend and partner in

crime. Energetic with good abilities to act with body language, and monkey

noises. No singing needed.

Magic Carpet (MALE or FEMALE Ages 14 & up) also should have high

energy, ability to pantomime and act with facial expressions/body language only.

Must possess strong gymnastics skills. Singing not necessary, but can sing in

chorus numbers if they'd like.

Sultan (MALE Ages 14 & up) should be able to play the father figure

convincingly. A bit scattered. Torn between his daughter's wishes, and the law of

the land he is upholding. Some singing needed.

Jafar (MALE Ages 14 & up) is the villian of the show….bent on taking over as

Sultan by marrying Jasmine to ascend to the throne. Strong acting/singing required.

To be played as evil as possible.

Iago (MALE or FEMALE Ages 10 & up) is the wise-cracking right-hand parrot

of Jafar. Great comic timing a must. Some singing required. Voice like in the

movie not required, but a plus.

Razoul (MALE Ages 14 & up) Captain of Jafar's guards…not very bright. Good

comedic skills and some singing required. Stage fighting necessary.

Guards (MALE Ages 10 & up) Jafar's personal soldiers. Good comedic timing

and some singing required. To be played as highly incompetent and always

making mistakes…a la the Three Stooges. Stage fighting necessary.

Harem Girls (FEMALE Ages 14 & up) provide narration during show, as well

featured singing parts in larger production numbers. STRONG singing abilities

required.

Ensemble (MALE and FEMALE Ages 5 & up) consists of Townspeople, Shop

Owners, the Three Princes, a Baker, Street Urchins (orphan children), etc. Some

will have narration lines that help advance the story. Singing/dancing necessary as

the ensemble is featured in most of the larger production numbers.
