Chapter 8 & 9

• The great depression came unexpectedly late in California. It was more of a subtle arrival and did not effect Cali as much. This was due to California’s diversity in agriculture, industrial, entertainment, tourist and service sectors. California wasn’t as crippled as much as the more industrialized states of the Northeast. Even after all this though, the depression did eventually make its way to California by the 1930’s. Those who continued with the service labor were able to use the work of their hands to help aid there defense against this depression.

Chapter 8 & 9

• After the Great Depression, California remained closely connected to the Military through the rest of the 19th century. The navy kept ship repair facilities off the San Fransisco bay and helped build ships for the America fleet. As soon as the US became more of a global power, the demand for California’s military involvement increased. This was an important role for California.
