Welcome 2017!

I know it’s hard to believe but 2017 is finally upon us. It

seems this could be a year of great unknowns, as well as

great expectations.

Nationally, the election is over and a new administration is

set to begin guiding the course for our Nation. And that

could mean immediate changes for our profession.

Locally, a new administration at SuncoastHR is now in

place and about to begin setting the course for our chapter.

It is my belief that the Board we have assembled for this

year is capable of moving the chapter to a new place of

excellence. We have many new members on the board and

several board members who have new roles. All of these

changes and new opportunities have raised a level of

excitement within our community that is uniquely

encouraging. We are excited to have you join us on this

journey.

My goal for SuncoastHR 2017 is simple and laser-focused. We want to improve the overall

experience for you, the member. Whether that improvement is in effortlessly renewing your

membership or registering for a meeting; a seamless check-in process at meetings; enjoying a

delicious breakfast at the meeting; engaging in a relevant, professional learning by amazing

speakers who will honor your time and commitment to SuncoastHR; and providing you with a level

of customer service that is second to none. I’ve personally worked with our board members to

develop goals for improving their areas of service to you. We have a plan in place that will help

move this Chapter to a level of functionality and efficiency that you should be able to see and feel.

I welcome you to help us usher in the new year! Please feel free to reach out to me or any of our

Board members with ideas for improvement. We welcome your thoughts on how we’re doing! But

let’s not stop there. Please feel free to suggest speakers or topics of interest that you would like to

see and hear at our meetings. Please consider joining the Board or serving on a committee. We

still have some opportunities available. I encourage you to share your gifts, strengths, and abilities

with us and our local HR community. It is only as a strong community here that we can influence

the larger HR community as a whole.

It is my desire, and that of this Board, to grow with you. To co-navigate the uncertain waters of the

coming year. To help predict the changes that lie ahead and be at the ready to strategically react

when events warrant action. We can do this, together! I’m excited for the opportunities we have

before us! How about you?

With best regards for the coming year,

Tom Topping

Attracting and Retaining “The Next Great Employer Challenge”

Presented by Express Employment Professionals, a company dedicated to helping businesses succeed.

About the Event: Now that most employers can see the light at the end of the recession

tunnel, CEOs across America are turning their attention to their next great

challenge, protection of their greatest asset; the knowledge of their people. Retention of your most talented employees has become the #1

agenda item of employers. Recent surveys indicate up to 80% of your employees are open to the opportunity of a job change and 50% have

already mentally checked out or are actively looking. Studies also show that 60% of the non-exempt workforce leave their jobs

within the first six months and make their decision to leave within the first

30 days. We will discuss the need and methods to increase employee engagement and retention, and why up to 80% of turnover can be

attributed to poor hiring-costing employers up to 150% of the first year’s salary to reverse the damage. This session will raise each leader’s

effectiveness to the benefits and tools of retention as well as implementing

fool proof hiring techniques to maximize your investment.
