JUNE
2020
The New Normal
I don’t know about you, but I’m really glad to see that we are beginning to see some hope regarding
this pandemic. Hopefully, by the time you’re reading this, our area will either be in the Green area or
very close to it.
During the past couple of months, Kathie and I have been very cautious about adhering to the
Governor’s guidelines. As some of you may know, we have a special needs daughter living in a
group home, and we are obligated to follow a very strict protocol in order to ensure her safety and the
safety of her staff. This includes being certain that we have not been in contact with anyone who may
spread the virus. And that is what we have been doing.
So now the question becomes, what is the Chapter going to do this summer? Even though things are
still somewhat precarious, I think we should consider the following:
• As was announced in the Call-Em-All, June’s Gathering has been cancelled. We anticipate
scheduling a July Gathering, even if it is held in some open-air venue.
• We will continue to communicate with messages through the Call-Em-All, Facebook and
Groupworks. If you are not already registered for Groupworks, we will be sending you an
invitation to sign up. It’s just another way for us to communicate with each other.
• Assuming things continue to progress in a positive manner, we will be scheduling a BYO
picnic sometime in mid-June. Details will be provided later.
• The Chapter will not be sponsoring any organized rides in the near future. This is
consistent with guidelines provided by the District and National. That being said, if the spirit
so moves you, please feel free to contact fellow members and schedule something.
• We encourage you to contact fellow members just to say “Hi”. I’m sure any communication
would be appreciated.
• We will continue to monitor the situation and adjust our activities accordingly. That’s not
much, but it’s what is required.
Well, I wish I had more to say, but I’m not sure what it would be. Besides, the National Professional
Cornhole Championships are back on ESPN. I certainly don’t want to miss any of that.
FROM THE DIRECTOR’S CHAIR
CRISIS REFLECTIONS...
Of all the things I learned in grade school, how to avoid cooties was the last one I expected to use. People keep asking “is corona virus really that serious?” Listen up! Casinos and churches are closed. When heaven and
hell agree on the same thing, it’s probably pretty serious!
Now that teachers finally have a chance to use the restroom, there’s no toilet paper.
Shout out to all the parents who never taught their kids respect and now they’re stuck at home with the little shits!!!
The longer this goes on the harder it will be to return to a society where pants and bras are required.
Cops these days will be like…”come out with your hands washed!” Day 31 of quarantine…ate all the snacks and food…clothes no longer fit… but I’m still wearing gloves and mask for
my protection.
Never in my whole life would I imagine my hands would consume more alcohol than my mouth!
And just like that…having a mask, rubber gloves, duct tape, plastic sheeting and rope in your trunk is OK. Ask not what staying home on the couch can do for you, but ask what staying home on the couch can do for your
country.
Police confront nudist sunbathers over not wearing facemasks amid corona virus outbreak.
Ladies…time to start dating the older dudes. They can get you into the grocery store early.
I don’t like the fact that my chances of survival seem to be linked to the common sense of others. I can’t believe I can walk into a store to buy weed, but I have to meet my hairdresser in a dark alley with unmarked bills
to get a haircut!
Have to say that the Class of 2020 outdid themselves with Senior Skip Day this year! With so many sporting events cancelled, they’re having to televise the World Origami Championship…It’s on Paper-
View. Everyone is posting memes and talking about coming out of this quarantine with a new skill or side hustle. I’m just
sitting here wondering how I never noticed there’s a turd in Sa’turd’ay.
Not to brag, but I haven’t been late for anything for the past 21 days! Sitting at the bar in the kitchen at night. Tried to pick up my wife. She gave me a fake phone number. WTH… It’s been a blessing being home with the wife for three weeks now. We’ve caught up on everything I’ve done wrong for
fifteen years. Have you noticed that since beauty salons are closed, selfies are down 68%? Breaking News: Wearing a mask inside your home is now highly recommended. Not so much to prevent corona virus,
but to stop eating.
FROM OUR WEBMASTER
Skill and Gear Can Protect You A helmet is the most important equipment a biker can use. In 2017, 1,908 motorcyclists who died were not wearing a helmet. Helmets are estimated to be 37% effective in preventing fatal injuries.
• A full-coverage helmet offers the most protection
• Look for the DOT sticker, which guarantees the helmet meets safety standards required by law
• Never buy a used helmet; helmets are useless after they've been worn in a crash
Not every state has a helmet law, but even if yours doesn't, wear one anyway. A motorcycle crash is a "violent event." More than 80% of all reported motorcycle crashes result in injury or death, according to NHTSA. In addition to wearing a helmet:
• Choose a bike that fits you; "supersport bikes" have driver death rates about four times that of cruisers or standard bikes, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety
• Invest in antilock brakes
• New riders should take a motorcycle safety course, and experienced riders should take refresher courses after being off their bikes for a while
• Know the rules of the road
• Be aware that riding with a passenger requires considerably more skill
• Never drink and ride
• Drive defensively, especially at intersections, where half of all collisions occur
• Watch for hazards like potholes, manhole covers, oil slicks, puddles, debris, railroad tracks and gravel
• Assume you are invisible to other motorists and position yourself to be seen
• Use headlights day and night
• Be courteous; don't weave in and out of lanes, or ride on the shoulder or between lanes
• Don't speed
• Wear bright and/or reflective clothing that is durable and boots that cover the ankles
• Wear goggles, glasses or use a face shield that is ventilated to prevent fogging, and make sure it's clear if riding at night.
We hope that everyone has had a wonderful riding season thus far and keeping in
mind that the best is yet to come.
Periodically the question has been asked is that MODULATING HEADLIGHT
LEGAL?
YES – they are legal in all 50 states and Canada! That doesn’t mean you will not
be pulled over by a law enforcement officer that is unaware of the Federal Standard.
Note that laws do change. Even this one has been revised to a new location within
the last few years.
A novice with a little knowledge of Federal codes digging awhile can find this
information, but you need not take the word of someone not trained in law.
Since these devices are permitted by express federal regulation, no state may have
a law or regulation, which prohibits them. The federal standard preempts the state
in this regard.
I would highly recommend carrying the manufacturer’s pocket card or information
available in many places on the World Wide Web such as http://users.snip.net/
CLAMB/MODULATOR.HTM
Having it in black and white lends credibility to your explanation.
One officer who also rides a motorcycle was going to see about modifying his own
ride!
Remember to be considerate of other riders when riding in a group. If you are not
the lead it is suggested that you turn off the modulating headlight so other riders are
not distracted by it flashing in their mirrors and oncoming traffic is not drawn to it
with you riding in the middle of the group.
This is a great safety tool, use it wisely and remember ATGATT.

FROM THE DISTRICT EDUCATOR
Well it is official Pennsylvania is now a traffic light. Some areas are green, some are yellow and others remain red. I know it is difficult to continue with home isolation, social distancing and wearing masks nevertheless, this plan has kept the majority of us safe and well. So, continue to do your part to keep everyone safe by adhering to the guidelines in your area or the area you are traveling. When the pandemic began, many of us were searching for toilet paper.
The majority of the stores in our area have hard to find items from time to time or maybe I’m not going to the store often enough to look for them. The big question many of are asking is when can I get a haircut? The majority of us need a haircut. My last haircut was March 13th and what little hair I have has grown out and is driving me crazy. No laughing. Yes, Diane volunteered to give me a trim but, I was apprehensive to give her scissors. I may not have had any hair left. We have been on a multitude of Zoom meeting. It has been great to see you! There are many more Zoom meetings in the next few weeks and we will try to make as many as we can. You know our schedule is really busy with most events being canceled. If your chapter has not tried a Zoom meeting and would like to have one, get in touch with us and we will help you set one up. With the PA District Rally being canceled, we needed to have a plan to select or 2020-2021 PA District Couple of the Year. We used Zoom and are honored to have Ray and Doreen Snyder, PA-I, selected as the PA District Couple of the Year. The District Team has been working on the 2021 PA District Rally. The rally dates are May 20-22, 2021 to be held in Pennsylvania. We plan on having the rally flyer and registration out this month. Does anyone have any ideas where we are going? The next District events on the schedule as of this date are:
08/16/20 PA District Ride-In – Note this will only happen if the whole state is green and the estimated size of our group is within the guidelines.
09/11-13 All Chapters East (ACE) – Get you registration in by August 22, 2020 Your host chapter is PA-X; the campground is Bodnarosa Motel & Campground, Berwick Registration is located on the District website at www.gwrrapadist.org or this newsletter
This is a great weekend to see people from other chapters. Come join the FUN! Summer will officially be here on June 20th. So, as we leave our homes and go out and about be mindful. Keep your social distancing and wear your mask. Respect the other persons decision to join or not to join. And give yourself a hug instead of a hug from your friend or family. Keep safe, be well and we hope to see all of you soon! And remember to always ride safe! Harold and Diane Jackson Your PA District Directors

LET’S RIDE!
ALL GATHERINGS
AND RIDES ARE
STILL CANCELLED
UNTIL FURTHER
NOTICE.
LET’S EAT!
Just a reminder about the call-em-all and rides. The call-em-all will normally be sent out the day before the ride or
function to give you the information regarding the ride details. Unless there are extenuating circumstances regarding
a ride it might be a day or two earlier. When it is an outdoor function, the weather will be monitored closely up until
the day before and even the day of, depending again, on the circumstances and if it has to be canceled or delayed. We
don’t like to cancel rides/plans, but Safety is our #1 priority and if we feel it might be unsafe to continue with a ride,
then it most likely will be cancelled. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.
❖ If you are still having difficulty receiving, or hearing the call-em-all messages,
❖ you can call: 877-565-8456 and have the last message played back.
❖ Mileage is due by the Dec. gathering so Ed and Sharon can figure out the awards for the Christmas party.
If your birthday or anniversary was missed during the year, please email or catch Jim and
Kathie at a gathering or ride so the roster and newsletter can be updated.
Please submit articles, recipes’, for sale ads, or any other information for publishing by the
20th of the month so they can be inserted into the newsletter for publishing. Please also
have articles in M.S. Word format, and pictures in low resolution jpeg format, as it is easier to
incorporate them into the newsletter format and it will make wrestling them into the
newsletter a little easier. (Thank you!)
