OF THE DARKENING OF VALINOR

Summary

• Melkor flees to the North of Middle Earth• Orome and Tilkas went in search of him• While Orome and Tilkas went North, Melkor

changed direction and went south to Avathar

• Eldar recruits Ungoliant, a giant spider, and promises her food if she can find him

• Now Melkor changed forms as a tall dark Lord to also recruit Ungoliant

• She tried to hide from him but was unable to, and even then she resisted not to go

• Melkor became enraged because she would not go with him after he promised her a great feast

• Melkor and Ungoliant went to the two trees to suck the sap out of them

• Melkor pierced the tree with his spear, and sap flowed out like blood

• Ungoliant sucked all the sap, but was still hungry, so she went to the Wells of Varda and sucked them dry

• As she drank, she belched black vapors so great, it even scared Melkor

• The vapors turned everything to darkness, and everything became silent in Valinor

• Manwe could see that Melkor had come and gone and left a great destruction

• A pursuit was sent after him, but the darkness was so thick it had left Tulkas powerless

• When the darkness passed, Melkor had gone, and won
