A Samurai’s privileges included:• Being treated with respect by
common people If someone disrespected a Samurai,they could be faced with death.
A Samurai’s restrictions include:• Could not attend the theater• Could not take part in any
type of trade
Samurai’s were not allowed to attend theater because it was said to be beneath them.
Restrictions, Privileges , and Consequences
A Samurai’s most important thing in life was honor.
A Samurai was expected to commit suicide if:•He disobeyed and order•Failed to protect his lord •Lost a battle
The Bushido *All Samurai had to obey
strict rules called the Bushido.* Samurai’s and Samurai’s families were forced to follow these rules. The word Bushido means “The Way of the Warrior.”
An important rule of the Bushido said that a Samurai must obey his master. Even if it caused the family pain, an order was an order.
Samurai WarriorsThe Bushido also stated that Samurai should be brave warriors.
Both men and women were taught how to fight.
They were both taught to fight because:
• Men fought in wars• Women protected their
houses from robbers
Samurai’s believed that they would become a better warrior with discipline.
To concentrate and bring peace to their minds they:
• Participated in calming rituals: tea ceremony…
• Adopted Buddhism• Meditated
