• Messengers scramble to get the word out

• Militias gather at Boston• What now?

2nd Continental Congress Meets

• They do not want to break with Britain.

2nd Continental Congress Meets

• They send the Olive Branch Petition to King George III. They offer loyalty to Britain, and ask him to repeal the Intolerable Acts.

• They prepare for possible war, forming the Continental Army, under the leadership of George Washington.

Meanwhile back at Ft. Ticonderoga

• Ethan Allen and the Green Mtn. Boys, a militia group from Vermont, take Ft. Ticonderoga, near Canada.

• Patriot Colonel Prescott leads his men to Breed’s Hill overlooking Boston Harbor.

• British Gen Howe leads an attack on them.

• Prescott’s famous order: Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes!
