Moving into Traffic

• Visibility-look at the oncoming traffic, observe any road signs or signals, and notice if someone is behind you.

• Time-Do you have time to move into the lane, and what is the speed you will need to get into the lane?

• Space-Is there room for you to enter the roadway?

Leaving Traffic

Visibility-get in the lane where your destination is, and use your mirrors to check to see if cars are in your way.

Time-wait until you are able to make your move safely and make sure you have enough time to do so.

Space-make sure there is room in the lane for you to be in.

What is the safest way to change lanes?

1. PLAN IN ADVANCE

2. Know where your car is and where you want to go.

3. 4 seconds gap between vehicles

How do you make a right turn?

1. Check for signs and markings on the road. Prepare for turn 8-12 sec. ahead of time

2. Choose the correct lane AHEAD OF TIME3. Communicate your turn by a signal at least

150-200 ft. in advance.4. Position your vehicle in the lane before

turning.5. The gap from vehicles approaching from left

should be 8-11 seconds.
