CoordinationHow well your hands, feet,

eyesight, etc., work together to complete a task.

Benefits of play:Development of hand-eye

coordinationMuscle memoryBrain-extremity pathwaysMotor skills (these are your

smooth movement skills)

Hand-eye coordinationThis is when your are able to see

something and reach out and grab it!

Example: ◦Catching a ball requires hand-eye

coordination.◦Movement of your hand to the place

in the path of the ball.

Muscle MemoryIs how the muscles in the body

remember how to react.Example: Penmanship! The

drawing of letters. Or, typing!

Brain-extremity pathwaysAre the connections from the

brain to movement points throughout your body.

Example: Learning to walk!Your brain sent signals to the

correct muscle in your body and created a pathway. The nerves work together along the path to send a signal to the legs. If the wrong signal was sent your would trip or fall.

ReflexA quick, involuntary movement.Example:

◦Getting hit in the knee is to kick your leg.

SocializingIs interacting in a group

environment.

printed cards within the set rules of a game.

Very Popular!Can play more than one type of

game with a single deck of cards.

Tarot Cards:Have mystical overtones as used

by psychics of today.Card game of chance!

Themed board game:

Began around 1900’s.Players enter an elaborate

pretending environment where they become the characters.

Use the dice/numbered cards as a random generator.

ImmersionIs the degree to which the player

becomes fully involved with the game world.

Role PlayingAllow for a very deep immersion

as players assume a character (play a role).
