Smart DisplayThe Nucomm ChannelMaster offers optimum flexibility, is easy to use, and sets up fast in the field. The front panel

smart display and internal microprocessor are used to control and monitor all functions and operating parameters including everything from modulation and channel selection to RF power levels and audio subcarrier programming. All parameters of the modulator and encoder are set via the smart display. When the modulator parameters are set the encoder is also automatically set.

Quick KeysNo need to wade deep into menus for that set up function that you need in a hurry. The front panel has five quick keys which provide quick access to commonly used functions such as input selection, modulation mode, audio functions, color bars and standby mode.

Quick-Store User Presets

To meet operator demands, 15 quick-store presets are provided for recall of predefined transmitter settings. The operator can instantly switch between pre-programmed modes of operation. This will be useful during the 2 GHz relocation, when migrating from old to new frequency plans and from analog to digital operation.

Dynamic Color BarsThe dynamic test pattern generator functions in both the analog and the digital modes. A programmable 16 character ID is included and contains alpha and numeric characters. The dynamic pattern offers several characters that are blinking. This is necessary for digital operation when the pattern must show some motion in order to verify the link.

Inputs & OutputsThe transmitter offers separate connectors for ASI In, SDI In, 70 MHz In and Video In. All input and power connectors are located on the lower portion of the front panel. An RF type “N” connector is located on the rear of the unit. A “D” connector is located on the side of the unit for full RS-232/RS-485 remote control. RS-232/RS-485 is also available on the front panel multi-pin connector.

Output PowerThe 2 GHz ChannelMaster is available with a 5 watt analog/1.5 watt digital amplifier or 12 watt analog/5 watt digital internal amplifier. An optional high power 10 W digital amplifier is also available. The 7 GHz model is available with a 5 watt analog/1.5 watt digital amplifier. The 13 GHz model is standard with a 3 watt analog/0.5 watt digital. The dual band and tri-band models can be configured with any combination of the power amplifiers offered.

High/low RF power levels are front panel switchable. The low power mode is typically 3 to 6 dB below the high power setting.

HDTV TransmissionThe demand for high definition transmission from the field is increasing, and the ChannelMaster TX7.4 is ready. The multiple modulation format capability of the ChannelMaster offers the flexibility of transmitting in the robust COFDM format in non line of site multipath scenarios or single carrier formats for line of site ultra-high data rate scenarios. The integrated HD/SD low latency encoder makes it easy for the operator as no additional equip-ment is necessary and all modes can be simply programmed into presets.

The ChannelMaster can be configured to operate using DVB-T compliant 6/7/8 MHz COFDM. COFDM offers a dramatic increase in data rates to accommodate high quality HD transmissions. Also available are VSB and QAM modulation modes that offer data rates of 30 Mbps and beyond. VSB modulation is superior to QAM, in that for a given bandwidth, higher data rates are achievable. Our HD solution is also comprised of a very powerful long GOP encoder using IPB frames to improve video quaility by 30% over traditional IP frame-only encoders. With an eye on the future, Nucomm's HD encoder/ modulator is designed to be upgradeable as formats change in HD transmission.

Typical selectable data rates are shown in Table One. Note that VSB provides multiple data rates up to 29 Mbps in a 6 MHz bandwidth. This is ideal for split channel operation. Table Two lists the data rates for COFDM with two typical code rates (FEC).

In VSB mode, the RF output will be ~1dB higher for the same spectral regrowth performance. This will provide expanded coverage. For markets using split channel operation, VSB can accomodate 19 MBits in a 6 MHz channel while still meeting FCC mask — which can not be achieved with COFDM.

System ConfigurationThe ChannelMaster transmitter is very flexible and can be configured according to the individual customer’s needs. As a base unit the ChannelMaster transmitter is supplied in a single band format in either 2 GHz, 7 GHz or 13 GHz and is configured for both AC and DC operation (low power models). The basic unit is supplied in a low power configuration for the band chosen and without modulators but with a 70 MHz input. The system is then built up by adding any or all of the following:

n Analog FM modulator, SD or SD/HD

n MPEG-2/MPEG-4/COFDM encoder modulator (4:2:2* and 4:2:0 switchable)

n Two audio channels standard (Four available)

n Choice of a third modulation format** — VSB, QAM, DVB-T

n Dual band and tri-band operation***

n Selection of internal high power amplifiers

n Dynamic color bar generator with ID * SD only ** When available *** Frequency bands from 1.5 to 15.4 GHz available

ApplicationsThe ChannelMaster is ideal for a variety of field applications including: tripod mounted portable, airborne and ENG van transmit systems.

Tripod Mounted Portable SystemNucomm offers a wide variety of portable system products and ac-cessory items including: medium and heavy duty tripods, portable antennas—including megahorn and parabolic, configurations in 2, 3 and 4' sizes. Carry/shipping cases (all sizes) and batteries/adapters, L-brackets and multiplexers for duplex operation are also available. The ChannelMaster Portable Receiver is the perfect compliment to the ChannelMaster Transmitter and makes for a complete point to point portable link. Configurations include simplex, duplex and repeater systems.

Airborne SystemThe ChannelMaster is extremely light-weight, even in a high output power, band configuration. This makes it extremely at-tractive for airborne applications such as helicopter, fixed wing aircraft and blimps. The transmitter can be configured with internal high power amplifiers or external 10 W digital ultra high power amplifiers. The ChannelMaster Portable Receiver is ideal for airborne repeater applications. Hand held and panel mounting remote controls are available for the transmitter and receiver.

ENG Truck Pac SystemNucomm offers all of the system accessories necessary for those that like the versatility of having a full-up portable transmitter located in the truck. The transmitter can easily be removed and used for portable applications, when the need arises. Accessories include a variety of mast-mounted power amplifiers, including an 8 W digital ultra high power amplifier and a 19” rack mounting control shelf with power supply. The control shelf holds the ChannelMaster transmitter and provides DC power to the power amplifier.

SDI Converter Built-InFor systems that are fully designed for SDI, there’s no more need for expensive external SDI-Composite converters when Analog FM operation is used, because we’ve built a professional grade SDI-to-composite converter into our FM Modulator. Additionally, the embedded audio on the SDI can be de-embedded and ap-plied to the audio subcarriers. This is especially handy when the camera you are using outputs everything on a single SDI cable.
