IRMC is proud to announce Florida Blue has designated the medical center as a Blue Distinction Center+ for its Cardiac and Maternity Care programs, and Knee and Hip Replacement surgeries. The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association’s Blue Distinction Centers are nationally-designated healthcare facilities shown to deliver improved patient safety and better health outcomes based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community. Blue Distinction Centers have met rigorous program standards and demonstrated quality and improved outcomes for patients, with low rates of complications and readmissions. In addition to meeting established quality thresholds, each of these distinctions also requires IRMC to demonstrate better cost-efficiency compared to other hospitals. A hospital must also maintain national accreditation at the facility level for cardiac care, and knee and hip replacement surgeries. The Blue Distinction Centers for Maternity Care program, a new designation under the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program, evaluates hospitals on several quality measures. In addition, hospitals that receive this designation have agreed to meet requirements that align with principles that support evidence-based practices of care. This includes initiating programs to promote successful breastfeeding. The program also evaluates hospitals on overall patient satisfaction, including a patient’s willingness to recommend the hospital to others. “IRMC is honored to have met the rigorous selection criteria set by the Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care program,” said Charles Mackett, MD, President of Indian River Medical Associates and Chief Medical Officer at Indian River Medical Center. “We are proud to be a leader in cardiac, surgical and maternity care. Our continued team effort and focus on clinical excellence, safety, quality and value continues to be recognized nationally. ” e Right Care Right Here Would You Like an Executive to Walk in Your Shoes? The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association’s Blue Distinction Centers are nationally-designated healthcare facilities shown to deliver improved patient safety and better health outcomes based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community.

In addition, hospitals that receive this designation have agreed to meet requirements that align

with principles that support evidence-based practices of care. This includes initiating programs to promote successful breastfeeding. The program also evaluates hospitals on overall patient satisfaction, including a patient’s willingness to recommend the hospital to others.

This is the 41st year we celebrate and honor clinical/medical laboratorians. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are over 300,000 practitioners of clinical laboratory science in the United States. Mostly unseen by the public, but providing quality patient care behind the scenes, laboratory practitioners performed a total of an astonishing 268,000 tests in the IRMC laboratory in FY2015, including 95,712 complete blood counts, 59,695 comprehensive metabolic panels, and 12,205 blood cultures. Take a moment next week to thank a Laboratory Clinical Scientist.

Imaging Sciences Volunteers Go ItalianIn a long-standing tradition, IRMC Auxilians working in the Imaging Sciences area and the Radiology/Hospitality Room had a treat on April 13 at a luncheon held in their

honor. With pasta, Alfredo and marinara sauces, and cannoli pastries, the volunteers were shown just how much their hard work helping with outpatients, transporting orders and updating family members is appreciated. “They help us out so much,” said Amanda Parker, RT(R)(N). Dee Summerall, Ancillary Admin and Systems Coordinator, began the volunteer lunch 14 years ago.
