• Moving toward new assessments of reading and mathematics in 2014-15: PARCC
• Adding new measures to the middle school grades (Civics, HS EOCs and Industry Certifications)
• Assimilating EOCs into the school grades model as they are implemented

2011-2012 Proposed changes to School Grades
• Different Grading Scale
• School Grading Scale Trigger• Every time the percentage of ‘A’ and ‘B’ schools
reaches 75% in a current year, the minimum required points for grades of A, B, C, and D would be increased.
Different Grading Scale
Old New
Elementary Schools 800 840
Middle Schools 800 1040
Senior High Schools 1600 1600
![Page 8: Changes to the School Grading. Student Assessment FCAT 2.0 in Reading and Mathematics Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) with new cut scores.](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022070411/56649f485503460f94c6a5ea/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
The Bottom Line• The state's changes in both individual
student and school accountability will likely result in a decline in school performance grades even if student scores increase.

• (50% of high school grade = 800 possible points)• Combination Schools are split 70/30 (US!!!)
High School AccountabilityComponents
Individual Components1. Graduation Rate2A. Participation in Accelerated Coursework2B. Performance in Accelerated Coursework3. Postsecondary Readiness4. Graduation Rate for At-Risk Students5. Growth or Decline in components

Component 1: Graduation Rate
• Beginning 2011-2012• Graduation rate is New Federal Uniform rate• Graduates = Standard Dip. Recipients• Non- Grads = Dropouts, Cert. of completion, GED,
Non on-time grad., Special Dip, Transfers to adult ed• Stud. Not included in calculation:
– Stud. Who transfer to other schools (Priv & Pub)– Home education and deceased students– DJJ students who are NOT standard diploma
![Page 11: Changes to the School Grading. Student Assessment FCAT 2.0 in Reading and Mathematics Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) with new cut scores.](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022070411/56649f485503460f94c6a5ea/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Component 2A: Participation in Accelerated Coursework
• Proposed Calculation:• Numerator = All 9th – 12th graders taking AP or DE• Denominator = The total number of ENROLLED 11th
and 12th graders– To count, students must take and PASS the exam OR must
earn a grade in the DE classes to receive credit– Take an industry certification exam that is approved by SBE

Component 2B: Performance in Accelerated Coursework
• For 2011-2012• Numerator = Successful outcomes by all 9th –
12th students• Denominator = All 9-12 graders that took an
accelerated course
![Page 14: Changes to the School Grading. Student Assessment FCAT 2.0 in Reading and Mathematics Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) with new cut scores.](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022070411/56649f485503460f94c6a5ea/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Component 3: Postsecondary Readiness
• Numerator = # of students “ready” on SAT/ACT and or PERT anytime during their time in high school. (Highest scores used)
• Denominator = on time standard graduates.• College Readiness Chart
Exam Reading MathPERT 104 113
ACT 18 19

Component 4: At-Risk Graduation Rate
• Portion of Cohort that earned both a Level 2 or lower on the FCAT Reading and Math in 8th Grade
• If less than 10 students in this category then overall grad rate will replace it.
![Page 16: Changes to the School Grading. Student Assessment FCAT 2.0 in Reading and Mathematics Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) with new cut scores.](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022070411/56649f485503460f94c6a5ea/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Component 5:Growth and Decline in comp.
• Additional points will be awarded based on the # of points the school improves from prior year: up to 20 additional points.
• School will lose 5 points if a component declines by at least 10 percentage points.
• Examples:– Growth: increase in acceleration performance from 25% to
32%. School earns 7 pts = a total of 39 pts for that component
– Decline: decrease in acceleration performance from 30% to 20%. School loses 5 pts = a total loss of 15 pts.
![Page 17: Changes to the School Grading. Student Assessment FCAT 2.0 in Reading and Mathematics Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) with new cut scores.](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022070411/56649f485503460f94c6a5ea/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Additional Items… Yes there’s more..:0(
• Mandatory college readiness course if not deemed “college ready” = all FCAT Level 1 & 2 in 10th grade.
• School responsibility for withdrawn students• 4 achievement levels in Alg. 1 EOC (Lev. 2-5)
– Passing = 3, 4, 5• Remove level 3 students from lowest 25%.
– Provision made for schools with less than 30 students in this category
