Chandler partnered with Under Armour and DCTC to participate in the 2016 PAVE Student Design Challenge, a unique design contest where students gain real world experience working with retailers and manufacturers. The resulting designs from the participants are then brought to life at GlobalShop, allowing the students’ works to be seen by the leaders in the retail design and visual merchandising industries.

Pave The Way Student Design Challenge

How the challenge works:

• The retailer outlines a realistic need they have in their stores.

• The students have the opportunity to design a solution for the retailer.

• The manufacturer provides real world guidance and support through the design phase.

• Once the students are ready to present their concepts, the manufacturer and the retailer chose the winning concept.

• The manufacturer then builds the winning concept and it is displayed at GlobalShop 2016!

We are proud to announce the final winning team for the 2016 PAVE the Way Student Design Challenge from Dakota County Tech College.

After two months of work, Dyonne Danielson and Cassie Behnke won the opportunity to develop a feature fixture for Under Armour with Chandler!

Congratulations! These two have won not only this fabulous chance to work with Chandler and Under Armour, but they have also earned a trip to GlobalShop.

However, their work is just getting started.

Chandler and Under Armour will use their design concepts to develop a fixture which will be on display at GlobalShop. They will be involved each step of the way through design, engineering, production and install/dismantle. In addition, they will be on site working the booth.

Chandler Team went to work transforming the design concepts into a fixture that would be displayed at GlobalShop with engineering drawings for the fixture and the backdrop.

Chandler looked to Under Armour for direction related to the augmented reality component of the fixture. Christiana from Under Armour introduced us to the group Blippar and Made by Mode. In addition, she supplied us with a creative brief to help move forward. With a tight timeline, Blippar provided us with a program that offered a demo to showcase the potential for augmented reality integrated into a physical fixture.

“With this project we are looking to create the “fixture of the future” that emphasizes the UA concept of merging the digital and physical world through Connected Fitness. See how the UA HealthBox Products: Band, Heart Rate and Scale can connect you directly with your own health information and others in the community. The exciting part of the fixture is what you can’t see in plain sight and what will tell the story of UA connected fitness. When the consumer walks up to the display that will be prompted to use an iPad to bring to life the UA digital world around the mannequin.”

PRESS RELEASE CONTENT BLOCK

Part of the PAVE Challenge involved using social media to track the number of posts related to each participant. Under Armour liked the idea of a contest and they were all in!

To track the posts before and during the show: Linkett is the social sharing technology employed by PAVE to track the social posts. For the Chandler team, in addition to driving people to the UA Las Vegas store, we are going to ask people to select the UA booth as their favorite and share on their social media via the Linkett software.

To win – we not only had to have an awesome fixture – but we needed to win a Fan Favorite Vote via Social Media. Hashtag #PAVE2016 was provided by PAVE to track pre-show and during show activities.

Our team won the PAVE Fan Favorite Vote for 2016 at GlobalShop! Within 3 days, PAVE had tallied close to 1,000 social media posts and the Under Armour, Chandler, DCTC team took home the prize. Thank you to everyone for their votes and their support for PAVE: The Planning and Visual Education Partnership. Thank you to the Under Armour, Chandler and DCTC team members for their support and efforts to bring this fixture from the pages of a notebook to reality.

For Under Armour, this project offered a variety of positive opportunities:

• Working with the Chandler team on a complementary prototype fixture and the ability to test Augmented Reality with a physical fixture.

• Supporting an industry non-profit.

• Visibility for the Under Armour brand at an Industry Event – estimated 30K retailers and manufacturers

For Chandler, this project offered a variety of positive opportunities:

• Working with Patrick and Christiana on a new and exciting prototype for Under Armour.

• Another opportunity to provide support for Under Armour.

• Engaging with local student designers that could become future employees.

• Instead of a static booth at GlobalShop, Chandler was given a story to share at the event which allowed pre and post media elements.

For Dakota County Tech, this project offered a variety of positive opportunities:

• Working with an international retailer on a real project versus an in-class project.

• Working with a design - manufacturer to gain real world experience.

• Networking within the industry for possible employment options after graduation.

• Learning real world problem solving tactics for manufacturing and client support.
