Welcome to the 2019 GHSA Soc-cer State Championships! The best teams from all classifications throughout our state will compete in what is sure to be the highlight of the soccer season. Thank you for your support of this tournament and for your support of high school soccer throughout this season. The GHSA is fortunate to have many partners and volunteers that make quality events such as this possible. We are grateful for the many volunteers and staff who generously give of their time to en-sure a quality event. McEachern High School in Powder Springs is set to host three days of

soccer state championship action with a schedule that features eight star-stud-ded matchups. The Class A-Private title games will be-gin championship weekend on Thursday, May 16 with Wesleyan taking on Pinecrest Academy in the girls finals. Wesleyan is in the hunt for its second all-time girls soc-cer state title after winning the Class A crown in 2017 and Pinecrest Academy sits one win away from a would-be first. The boys Class A-Private match also features a Wesleyan program in the hunt for the second state title—the Wolves captured the Class AA crown in 2016. Challenging Wesleyan will be Whitefield Academy, which took home a Class A state title as recently as 2017. Wesleyan beat Atlanta International 2-1 in Tues-day night’s semifinals while Whitefield served a Walker 5-0 defeat. On Friday, Class AAA will showcase an all-Region 5 matchup on the girls side of the classification as Westminster takes on rival Lovett. The finals are familiar ter-ritory for the Lady Wildcats, who have won four-straight girls soccer champion-ships, five of the last six and 12 overall.

Lovett, which has three girls titles – 2001, 2005 and 2016, was defeated by West-minster 4-0 on April 5. On the boys side, Westminster will be chasing its 14th all-time state title and third consecutive as Coahulla Creek challenged the Wildcats for what would be its first-ever boys soc-cer championship.

GRAND FINALE A four-game marathon on Saturday will bring the season to a close and it be-gins with the Class AAAAAA girls match between Dacula and Harrison. Dacula is searching for its first-ever girls soccer ti-tle. The Falcons have dominated the com-petition this postseason, moving through Douglas County (9-0), Dunwoody (3-0), Glynn Academy (6-0) and Heritage-Co-nyers (6-0) to earn its title berth. Harrison has won three girls soccer state titles – 2011, 2014 and 2017. The Hoyas handled Northview( 2-0), Apalachee (5-0), Hous-ton County (4-2) and Johns Creek (2-1) to reach the championship stage. In the boys Class AAAAAA finals, Gainesville is in search for its third soc-cer state title against a four-time state champion Dalton program. Gainesville moved through Douglas County 7-0,

Chattahoochee 2-1, Richmond Hill 4-3 and Cambridge 3-2 to earn its title berth. Dalton carries a flawless 22-0 record into the finals and defeated Northview 2-1, Apalachee 5-1, Glynn Academy 5-1 and Pope 6-1 this postseason. In Class AAAAAAA, the undefeat-ed Lambert girls (23-0) will try for their second soccer title after winning Class AAAAAAA two years ago. The Longhorns are ranked as one of the best teams in the country and have outscored their oppo-nents 107-3 this season. On the other side of the pitch, North Gwinnett is looking for its second all-time girls soccer state title and first since 2010. The Bulldogs will be riding momentum from their 2(4)-2(3) vic-tory over Parkview in PK’s in the semis. On the boys side, Lambert will try to defend its 2018 title after scoring a PK vic-tory over Meadowcreek (2-1) in the semi-finals. Lambert also won the AAAA cham-pionship in 2012 before last year’s. Across the pitch, Lakeside-DeKalb will be going for its eighth boys soccer state title. The Vikings’ most recent championship was the AAAA championship in 2008 and they earned this year's title berth with a 2-1 vic-tory over Milton in the semifinals. Photos courtesy of the GHSA
