Tim, Brittney, and girls. This is their story…F oster amily eature

For more information on Foster Parenting, please contact Sarah at (501) 268-3243

We didn’t exactly go looking for fostering- it rather sought us out. We imagine God was probably trying to lead us down that path, we just weren’t taking the bait. So, one of the ministers at our church directly asked Tim over lunch one day if we might be interested in caring for a baby that was due to be born any day. The mother was in prison and had 5 months left of her sentence. Brittney was about to be out of work for 3 months over the summer and was looking for an excuse not to return to that job. We thought, “Great! She’ll take off 5 months, have fun babysitting, and then return to work at a new job.” Little did we know that 5 months would turn into 15 months, that doors would be opened to minister to his mother and that our hearts would never be the same.

We wish that we could say that from day one we trusted God in His directing this little guy’s life. Unfortunately, when he returned to his mother, we found ourselves mad at God and asking “Why have you forsaken this child?” It just wasn’t fair.

God has a way of answering our questions, both spoken and unspoken. We are so happy and blessed to say that God opened our eyes and minds to exactly how much He loved this little guy and just how much planning and directing He was doing all along. This child was

amazingly taken from a hopeless situation and placed in a home that has not only been a blessing for him, but a needed blessing for the others in the home. We learned that our role in these kids’ lives may not be one that is permanent, but God’s presence is. We still have contact with our first little guy. Every time we see him, his family thanks us for the loving start he had to his life.

Roll forward 9 years and we

have been blessed to have a steady stream of opportunities to learn more about love come through our home. One of the greatest things about fostering now is seeing how our own children open their hearts to the foster kids, pray for them long after they leave and immediately pray for God to send us “more kids who need a home.”

Just 2 weeks ago, we had a little

guy, whom we had loved on for 13 months, go back to his birth mother. The biggest question people ask us is, “Don’t you get attached?” Well, the answer is an unequivocal “Yes!” And if we didn’t, we wouldn’t be giving these children what they need most. They need someone to hurt with them when they get shots and cheer for them when they reach a milestone. They need to get excited about seeing a consistent mother or

father each morning, and to get excited about calling “daddy” at work to tell some news about the day. They need someone to document their childhood with photos and a simple journal so they won’t have to live the rest of their lives with a “black hole” in their childhood. They need someone to kiss their boo-boos and play with them in the tub. And when it’s time for them to leave, they need to have friends and family who’ve invested their time and invested their emotions in this little life, who will surround them with intercessory prayers of safety

and comfort. If it means we have to get a broken heart to provide all of these things to a child who has no one - then sign us up.

We hurt for and miss the little man who left our home recently, but we have learned from our experiences that God is the father of the fatherless. We wait upon the Lord with great expectations to reveal His plan for his life, and ours.

Page 5www.searcychildrenshomes.org [email protected]

with the children’s belongings in their new luggage, but with fresh fruit, cereal, juice, and other items to help the family with their transition. We wish them God’s blessings.

Another sibling group, a brother and sister, were officially adopted by their foster family. The only home they have really ever known is now their “forever home”, where they will experience the love, support, and stability that every child deserves. We are so thankful for everyone involved in their adoption process and we are especially thankful for the family who opened their home and their hearts to these two precious children. What an incredible blessing!

He’s small, brown, has flat feet and a big mouth. His name is Personal Toad, and, through an educational children’s book written by Searcy author Jason A. Marzewski, Personal Toad will meets his best friend, Chicken. The book, entitled Personal Toad Meets His Forever-Friend, is Marzewski’s first published book, but he has strategically developed his story to help educate children as they read or hear it.

“Personal Toad and Chicken stories delight and entertain young readers, yet are intended to help children build and maintain their vocabularies as they discover the meanings of the underlined words that are sprinkled throughout the narrative, which are then clearly defined in Personal Toad and Chicken’s Little Brown Dictionary - the ‘book within a book’ - featured at the end of each story,” Marzewski notes.

“In an effort to help needy children and those

who selflessly care for them, a percentage from the sale of each and every Personal Toad Meets His Forever-Friend book will be donated to Searcy Children’s Homes, Inc.,”

Marzewski affirms. “I am humbled that God is allowing me to assist Taryn and Jeffrey Sheets and the Searcy Children’s Homes, Inc., staff in this capacity.”

Marzewski lives in Searcy, Arkansas with his wife, Tisha, three dogs, and two cats, and owns JAM Designs, his free-lance graphic design and advertising business.

For more information and/or to purchase a copy of the book, please visit the Personal Toad and Chicken website at www.toadandchicken.com,

e-mail [email protected], or telephone the author at 501-230-5927.

“Thank you” Jason for improving the lives of children!

LOCAL AUTHOR HELPS CHILDREN

“Home” – for most of us, the sound of home brings a smile on our faces and warmth in our hearts. For others, it is something to look forward to with hope, but for some, it is something that is never found.

Three sibling groups were able to experience “home” recently. One sibling group of two sisters and one brother were reunited with their parents and were so excited to be back home.

Unfortunately, a month after they returned home, their mother was killed in car wreck.

Home for these children will never be the same so please keep this family in your prayers. Our hearts grieve for these precious children.

One sibling group, two brothers and one sister, were able to be reunited with their mother. Although they were sad to leave the family who had cared for them and given them a sense of stability, love, and protection, they were so excited to be able to go home and be with their mother. Thanks to the many donations

that have been provided, the family van was not only loaded

2ND ANNUAL MOTORCYCLE FUN RUN FOR SEARCY CHILDREN’S HOMES

On Saturday, September 26th, registration will begin at Lenny’s Sub Shop in Searcy at 9:30 am. The ride will begin at 10:30 am to Lenny’s Sub Shop in Conway where each rider will be treated to lunch. The registration fee of $20 will benefit Searcy Children’s Homes.

THE SHARING SHOPPEFor the past few years, the possibility of

Searcy Children’s Homes establishing a thrift shop has been discussed as part of the vision for the agency. On Saturday, April 4, 2009, those discussions became a reality. Thanks

to the hard work of Phil and Kandi Tobin, their daughters, and a host of many volunteers,

The Sharing Shoppe opened up for its first day of business. The shop is located at 110 N. Spring Street, just southeast of the court house. The Sharing Shoppe is open Monday – Friday from 1:00-5:00 and Saturday from 10:00 – 2:00. Donations of gently used furniture, home décor, household items, etc. are accepted during those times. All of the proceeds benefit Searcy Children’s Homes.
