POWDER PUFF
"Powderpuff ••• that's what they call it anyway. I knew I was in for a rough game from the second the whistle was blown. Everyone was chasing after me, each with a goal in min.d. I've always been. rather straight-laced,' yet I continually find myself in these situa- . ti ons, Som e of those girls real I y hogged the ball, but then ,they don't call me "pigskin" for nothing."

Another year brings with it its first bi g dance, and traditionally, that dance isH omecoming. This -year" China Grove" filled everyone's hopes with an eastern mystique. The glowing reflection from the oriental lanterns, shaded everyone's mood, and made dancing impossible to resist. The excitement was taken one step higher with the awarding of King and . Queen. Those to receive the honors were: KING-Chuck Long, QUEEN-Terri Liddy. The ATTENDANTS-Jane Moeder, Laure Staton, Ava Webb,Herb Leigh, Robert Scott, and Dave Miller.

Changes - once again. Beginning to loosen up
in summer's routine. Soon to face rules and regulations Tomorrow there's school.
Yesterdays keep growing, Another calendar in the drawer. September's arrival
has each day scheduled -Tomorrow's too planned.
Thinking needs practice patterns for particular subjects,
Eas ier than thought to be. Tomorrow looks better.
Friends handling situations, Rowdy library action,

It was after this realization that our heads began to go around In circles. llhe questions: Who am l? Where do I go from here? What career am I going to pursue began to a ise. We began feeling lost before actually beginning our journey through life. In her poem, lit; e ney", Penny Trealer wrote:

it is a continuing process, but we must d~ cide what to travel and how to travel. We here on night promise to make our lives as full a~d as ri ch as they can be as they were meant to be4 At this moment many of us are trying to i valuate the past years. Were t 4'Y gGcid or baclt Dilt I

Let us remember the good and bad. The ~ Iubs we did and didn't join. Th ~lasses we skipped those we wished we had. The games, a ~mblies, the proms, and the one thing we can't forget: merger of the three schools. Remember,"~ is a happy sad affair. With it comes hagpiness like

And the all knowing and carihg God will gently reach down and judg'e us as his chi Idren wha ~e knows have done their best. As I take my seat I dlarge the ni neteen hundred and seventy-five graduating c lass of Chaminade-Juliehne with' the poem, "B Strong", author unknown. -
Be strong! We're not here
to play, to dream, to drift We have lots of work to do
and loads to lift Shun not the battle
face it, tis God's gift Be strong! ' Say not the days are evi I who's to blame.
Hold thy head in acquiese. Oh shame Speak out but bravely in God's name
Be strong! It matters not how greatly entrenched the wrong How hard the battle goes.
Stand up! Fight on! Tomorrow comes the song.

I would also like to thank the rest of my staff because it was their . combined efforts that produced this book, a book which is like a fine vintage wine. We began' by planting an idea. After many hours of labor and some disappointments, it began to flourish. Soon, other ideas stemmed from it and we continually cultivated them, picking only the ripesLThese ideas matured and became real as we gathered and preserved the events of the year. Bottled within these pages are the richest and most treasured memories. As they age, they will sparkle and shine arid seem to say, "1975, a very good year!" .

A 1200 MILE WALK It started out as a Sunday stroll and ended up as a 1,200
mi Ie hike down the Appalachian Trai I from Main to
~ Virginia. The day broke clear as we stood at the base of Mt. Katatidin about to start on an unforgettable journey -upward, onward, around, down, 'backward and who knows where else. Through this journey, many unforseen th ings happened. For ex-amp Ie, have you ever spent 120 days carrymg your house on your back, or pitched your tent in a nice spot only to find yourself ina foot of water the next morni ng, or carri ed two sleeping bags because someone in the group got sick? Have you ever had Jello for breakfast and soup for dinner for three days because · someone left a coup Ie of cans of food and the Bisquick at the last place you camped, or have you ever slipped off a rock only to find yourself hip deep in mud?
Wake up in the midd Ie of the night and you can see countless numbers of stars and hear no sounds of the city •
You may have done some of these things, but we doubt that you1ve done them . all ... unless of course you1re one of us-one of the magnificent seven: .Bro. Dave Qui g ley, Jeff Brugger, Mike Sprowl, Jim and John Orr, Rick Piekutowski, and Greg Bayer. Our trip was more than 1,200 mi les, more than 4 months I • • ; ' j twas gr'eat, it was full of learning, it was, , • more than words, .

LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, PRESENTING
That sounds pretty impressive doesnlt it? I, think it does. It took a 10 g time, a lot of arguing and plenty o~ pracbicing to get threre. I t:! the end everyooe though~ it was worth all that . I mean after winning three trop ~ ies, those long tiring practices seemed actually worthwhile. But when itls allover and you have time to sit and look back on it all, you realize you loved every minute of i f • •• even band camp. Then .you realize something in you wi II never be the same and yould give anythi ng to relive i ~ all again . Thatls what the past three years have meant to me. I hope Paula, Rose Anne, Chris, Kathy, Janice, Peggy, Karen, Shelley and Margie feel the same.

MUSIC BY CANDLELIGHT I do not compete,
that which I express comes from the heart and if it forms a melody,
whether it be pleasing or not, it is serene.
I do not as k you to lis ten, for II ve not noti ced your appearance.
I am lost in expression.
I do not wish you to compare, for my expression wishes

Many events take place throughout the year, but very few of them become special memories. One of these select occasions is the Prom. For all the work put into it this year, was the Prom really worth it? Was it worth the 75 trips to Cappells in a broken VW, dyeing 150 Ibs. of sand to make 56 sand paintings, or cutting out 400 little green clouds to personalize the plants? Was it worth sewing those queen- sized sheets together and painting a "Stairway to Heav en", batik, or carting pole vault standards down to Winter's Lobby to hang it on? Was it worth sweating out a whole month till someone finally asked you? I've got my answer. You judge for yourself •••

OMBUDSMAN
The word" Ombudsman" is a Swedish word and means "one who represents someone".
The plight of the individual student or staff members in a large, complex, and somewhat impersonal high school is a growing concern to everyone. A student or any member of the C-J community who has a grievance, problem or a suggestion often does not know where to make hi m/herse If heard.
The main objectives of the C-J Ombuds Office are to handle grievances, protect individual rights, resolve conflicts, and to seek improvement in the efficiency and productivity of the entire C- J high school system, so that it may function more humanly.

INVITATIONA LS
From the outset of this past season we realized our potential to be winners. Yet, as most teams build around their many seniors, we were forced to bui Id around talent, pride, and desire for there were only three seniors. Even our coac.h was relatively new, yet he strived for success as di ligently as we did.
Everyone knows what talent is. It is the physical ability possessed by an individual. But how do you define pride and desire? To our team those two words meant giving 105"10 every day. Pride meant not only knowing we were the best but proving it. Its tough to be mentally prepared for two months of practice and 46 games but we did it because we owed it to ourselves and to you the student body.
To me the word desire can be summed up by the addage "Winners never quit and quitters never win." We won as a team in the 30 · weather at the beginning of the season and we were sti" winning as a team in the rain that concluded our season. We never quit, maybe that's why we ended up as winners.
