On Saturday 14th of October we are undertaking a 12 hour obstacle endurance event at a purpose built course in Symonston ACT. The 2.5km course will feature over 50 obstacles and individuals and teams will endeavour to complete as many laps of the course whilst raising money for those deeply affected by mental health, loss and grief.

My personal commitment to this cause was born from the experiences of my family and our exposure to Mental Illness in its various guises. Whilst we all know someone close to us who battles the effects of mental health on a daily basis, on the 23rd of July 2015, I was personally affected in the worst possible way. My best mate, a man I considered to be my brother, Robbie McMullen, took his own life leaving behind three young children, a loving family and friends. “Robbie’s death is something I have struggled to come to terms with, not only grieving his death but constantly questioning what I could have done differently to prevent it. Did I miss a sign, should I have seen this coming, could I have changed the outcome? I often find myself questioning what deep dark place he must have been in to feel that suicide was even an option, it’s a place I hope I or those around me never know.” I found strength from others suffering from PTSD and other mental health issues during my two treks of the Kakoda Trail. On each of these treks I got to hear the stories from returned soldiers and the parents of soldiers killed in action. The friendships I made, the trust I earned and the subsequent stories I was told have made me extremely passionate about our service men and women and the battles they face returning from service.

Chambo Challenge 4.1 represents the opportunity to give hope, raise awareness, be part of an extraordinarily challenging event and most importantly make a difference by supporting our chosen beneficiaries.

We sincerely appreciate your support and look forward to sharing our journey with you.

The Chamberlain Foundation was established by three highly driven brothers in the fields of business, government and sport. Overcoming adversity was common place during their quest to achieve and they acknowledge that the power of the people around them helped drive their ambition.

In an effort to give back to the community at large, individually they engaged in a wide range of philanthropic and charitable activities. Establishing the Chamberlain Foundation was a means for the brothers to consolidate their efforts and enhance their ability to make a positive contribution in the lives of many.

On Saturday 14th October we will conduct the 3rd iconic event, 4.1, for the Chamberlain Foundation to raise awareness and money for those deeply affected by mental health, loss and grief.

Having successfully hiked 250kms from feet in the water at the costal town of Bermagui to the top of Australia summiting Mount Kosiuosko, we then set off and rode the 800km’s from Parliament House in Canberra to the MCG in Melbourne. We now turn our attention to Challenge 4.1, a 12 hour continuous obstacle course setout over 3kms and encompassing 60 plus obstacles.

Via the journey undertaken to date, the Chamberlain Foundation have been privileged to be aligned with and exposed to the wonderful work of three fantastic organisations. Three difference makers for such a significant issue. Three organisations that we consider to be full of heroes. We are proud to have donated in excess of $150,000 to support the services provided by Lifeline, Griefline and RUOK?

How we raise money

We eat

We host corporate style lunches in Canberra and Melbourne for people from the business,

sporting and philanthropic sector who can support the Chamberlain Foundation. Each

Brothers Lunch is an opportunity for supporters and beneficiaries to meet and hear about the work the Foundation is doing with its charity

partners.

We ride

A 6-day, 700+km fully supported bicycle ride. Starting in the Docklands on the 20th November

2017, this years’ Razor Ride takes riders through Victoria’s most iconic cycling locations,

returning to Melbourne on 25th November 2017.

We challenge

The 2016 Chambo Challenge was a 5-day, 200km walk from the New South Wales coast

to the summit of Mt. Kosciuszko, the highest mountain in Australia.

Our 2017 Chambo Challenge is “4.1” - a 12 hour continuous obstacle course incorporating

more than 50 obstacles spread over 2.5 kilometers.

Why 4.1 The harsh reality is that during the course of the event 4.1 men, women and children will have taken their own life. That’s 4.1 too many! 4.1 is about making a difference!

The Challenge4.1 is all about challenge. Challenging individuals to push themselves mentally and physically. Challenging groups of people to work together in a team for a common goal. Challenging us to change the way we think about mental illness. Challenging us to make a difference.

The FocusChambo Challenge 4.1 has been designed to bring groups of people together to work towards the goal of completing either the 6 or 12 hour challenge. It is not a race! Teams can complete it as a unit, as a relay, or a combination of both.

4.1 aims to foster support within groups of people both known and unknown, during the event and through the wider community as a whole so that we can all make a difference.

The EventThe Chamberlain Foundation in partnership with BFirm are going to be holding a 12 hour obstacle course event at BFirm’s purpose built venue in Symonston ACT. The 2.5km course will feature 50+ obstacles and is targeted at pushing participants both physically and mentally. The event is going to consist of three elements: 1. 12 hour challenge for individuals and teams - 12:00 am - 12:00pm2. 6 hour challenge for individuals and teams - 06:00am - 12:00pm3. Family ‘Come & Try’ session - 12:30pm - 2.30pm

The campaign will tailor the RUOK? message in an age appropriate way that is relevant, memorable, practical and empowering.

During last years Razor Ride, at an overnight stop in Albury, R U OK? ambassador Travis Collins (pictured here) supported the ride by playing at a fundraising event for the local community.

As parents to teenage girls the Chamberlain brothers have already seen first hand the negative impacts social media can have on self-esteem and mental well being. The Chamberlain Foundation are currently working with a number of organisations on developing some pilot programs that curb the negative and often devastating impact that social media is having on teenage girls in particular.
