You are making a valuable business connection by joining the Chamber. Our Chamber staff is available to discuss member benefits, scheduled events, edu-cational opportunities, and to evaluate how our Chamber can help your busi-ness grow. An officer who had shots fired at him by a bank robber, firefighters who ran into a burning home in an attempt to save lives, and a citizen who saved the life of a priest by administer-ing CPR. These are three examples of heroic actions that were honored at previous Valor Awards ceremonies. The Valor Awards are presented by City National Bank.

The Chamber is looking for the community to provide nom-inations for the 2017 Valor Awards. The ceremony recognizes members of the various public safety departments, as well as every day citizens who have gone above and beyond to en-sure the safety of others. Nominations will be accepted from July 10 through September 1. Anyone is welcome to submit a nomination. A nomination form and complete description of categories can be found on the chamber website. Do You Know Your Customers’ Needs?By: Jeff Nicely| Business Development Specialist, Top of Virignia Regional Chamber

How many times have you seen people show up at business events, networking groups, socials, or other gatherings and immediately try to sell their products and services to people without asking questions and without regard for people’s needs?

Needs drive people to find solutions because no one likes to live with unmet needs they know they can resolve.

Before making another sales call, before attending another networking event, and before pushing another product on a customer, know your customers’ needs.

So how do we get to know our customer’s needs? z Talk to your customers - This can be done through a face

to face meeting, a phone call, or an online survey. Whatev-er you decide, talk to your customers in ways that make the best use of their time and identifies their real needs.

z Ask great questions - Make your questions open ended so you can get your customers talking about themselves. And when they talk, listen carefully.

z Make a plan and act -Refrain from making assumptions, refrain from making judgments and instead, make a plan to know your customers’ needs.
