Featuring quilts in every room of the museum, owned and/or installed by the women of the Lumber River Quilter’s Guild. To see how scraps of cloth become folk art, a visit to the museum is in order. Many local quilts are on display. Some are heirlooms, and some contemporary and creative examples, such as the “Hungry, Hungry Caterpillar,” a take on the famous children’s book by Vickie Locklear, and “Christmas” by Cappy Kreminski. The exhibit is an education in quilting. Samples of standard quilting squares are on display. These include: Jacob’s Ladder, Bear’s Paw, Log Cabin, Monkey Wrench, Wagon Wheel, Crossroads, Basket, North Star and more. The Robeson County History Museum is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon and Sundays 2 to 4 p.m. If you would like to attend outside of these hours, we recommend that you call ahead and schedule an appointment – the museum is always happy to serve. On Thursday, September 14, over 1,100 audience members attended GPAC’s season opener, Romeo & Juliet. For the first time, the Givens Center and the University Theatre program collaborated with a professional cast from New York and Los Angeles to deliver a unique adaptation of Shakespeare’s most beloved play. Attendees also enjoyed the return of Act 1 Diner’s Club before the show. Themed meals are available before select shows and served in the Chancellor’s Dining Room. Upcoming shows include “Martial Artists and Acrobats of Tianjin” on Oct. 19 and “Who’s Bad?” Michael Jackson tribute concert on Oct. 27.
