The Virginia Cantaloupe Festival is the major fundraiser for the Hali- fax County Chamber of Commerce. All profits are put back into Halifax County through the Chamber’s work. Without it, many of the programs and services the Chamber offers would not be possible. The Chamber is an organization of people who care deeply about this com- munity. It provides the opportunity for these people to unite to plan, organize and orchestrate events, meetings, forums, seminars, and partnerships, to advance economic development, educa- tion, transportation, communication, workforce development, advocacy and the many other functions of the Cham- ber. It is a dynamic organization that helps Halifax County move forward. It is an organization of great people. “We are so fortunate to have so many wonderful people on our side who put in countless hours planning and working to host a great event,” stated Chamber president, Mitzi McCormick. “We appreciate each and every one of them,” she continued. Twenty golfers will have the opportunity to test their luck from 140 yards from the hole,” stated Golf Tournament Chairman Nookie Green. “The cash prize for the shoot- out is $50,000,” he continued. Birdie sponsors of the tourna- ment include Blue Ridge Beverage, Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, Dominion Energy, and Wells Fargo Advisors. Proceeds will support Chamber programs and services and Work- force Services at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center, both vital to the future of Halifax County.
