On behalf of the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce and the festival committee, we want to
express our sincere thank you to the many people who sponsored, worked on, and attended the 37th Annual Virginia Cantaloupe Festival.
The Virginia Cantaloupe Festival is the major fundraiser for the Hali-fax County Chamber of Commerce. All profits are put back into Halifax County through the Chamber’s work. Without it, many of the programs and services the Chamber offers would not be possible.
The Chamber is an organization of people who care deeply about this com-munity. It provides the opportunity for
these people to unite to plan, organize and orchestrate events, meetings, forums, seminars, and partnerships, to advance economic development, educa-tion, transportation, communication, workforce development, advocacy and the many other functions of the Cham-ber. It is a dynamic organization that helps Halifax County move forward. It is an organization of great people.
“We are so fortunate to have so many wonderful people on our side who put in countless hours planning and working to host a great event,” stated Chamber president, Mitzi McCormick. “We appreciate each and every one of them,” she continued. Committee members include: Chair
Nancy Long, Edward Jones Invest-ments; Charles Anderson, Charles An-derson Lawncare; Ken Buckley, Long & Foster; Brian Burton, JE Burton Construction; Jimmy Epps, B&B Con-sultants; Olivia Epps, Mix & Ripple; Chad Francis, Halifax County Farm Bureau; Nick Long, WHLF 95.3; Jason McCormick, Grand Springs; Christy Puckett, Commonwealth Senior Liv-ing; and Brandon Scearce, Nationwide Insurance.
The Halifax County Chamber of Commerce is proud to host the Virgin-ia Cantaloupe Festival to bring people together to eat, drink, and be merry in a historic and beautiful venue such as Berry Hill Resort.

Involve-ment increases business contacts, creates an atmosphere for business development and produces opportunities to make decisions that will influence community concerns. The Chamber offers a wide variety of ways to get involved and will certainly suit the interest of any member. Bring your experience and
knowledge to help strengthen the Chamber’s membership while developing valuable busi-ness contacts.

In just under a month, the Chamber will kick-off its 4th Annual Fall Classic Golf Tour-
nament. The tournament will be held Friday, September 29 at the Halifax Country Club. The tourna-ment will be in a 4-man scramble format with tee times at 8am and 1pm. Although there is avail-ability for the morning tee time, the afternoon is full. “It’s a great opportunity to network with fellow business leaders while showing their businesses,” stated President Mitzi McCormick. “We also have great prizes that will be given away for closest to the pin, longest drive, and a cash prize for a hole-in-one,” she continued.
“We’re really excited to hold the shoot-out for a hole-in-one again this year. Twenty golfers will have the opportunity to test their luck from 140 yards from the hole,” stated Golf Tournament Chairman Nookie Green. “The cash prize for the shoot-out is $50,000,” he continued.
Birdie sponsors of the tourna-ment include Blue Ridge Beverage, Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, Dominion Energy, and Wells Fargo Advisors.
Proceeds will support Chamber programs and services and Work-force Services at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center, both vital to the future of Halifax County.
